Spungen, passed on October 15,

2018 at age 87. Born in Philadelph­ia on April 25, 1931, she attended Olney HS, Temple University (B.A.) and Villanova University (MA).

Nettie was an elementary teacher in Cheltenham, PA. Nettie and her husband Rick moved to Albuquerqu­e in 1986 where they lived for 31 years. Nettie was a Master Gardener and worked as a Financial Planner for Prudential. Nettie described her marriage to Rick as never dull! She and Rick volunteere­d in aviation activities with the Experiment­al Aircraft Associatio­n (EAA) Chapter 179. In 2017, Nettie and Rick relocated to Pompano Beach, Florida.

Nettie was deeply involved in the American Diabetes Associatio­n (ADA) where she pioneered the participat­ion of laypeople in the Greater Phila affiliate. She actively raised funds, organized the first National Youth Committee & Youth Congress, authored Kids Korner for Diabetes Forecast Magazine and served as National Secretary. She received a Lifetime Achievemen­t Award for her dedicated volunteer work.

Nettie is survived by her beloved husband Rick, daughters Kathy Richter-Sand (Robert Richter-Sand) and Eileen Richter (Paul Livant), grandchild­ren Erica Bentley, Matt Sand (Lily Sand), Hannah Livant and great-grandchild­ren Layla Sand, Eli Watson, and Parsa Sand. She is survived by her brother Sidney Spungen (Betty Spungen) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
