Marvel Braziel

-

Marvel Maude Braziel, age 97, died peacefully on November 8, 2018 at her home in Corrales, New Mexico. Marvel was born in Red Lodge, Montana on October 21, 1921 to Charles Arthur Thiel and Maude August Thiel (Sherrow). She graduated from Montana State College, Bozeman, Montana with a Bachelor in Fine Arts in painting. She met her husband, Kenneth Richard Braziel, after high school and married him in 1944. Kenny predeceased her in 1998. Marvel was an artist and, later in life, a teacher at Annunciation School in Albuquerque and at St. Anne’s School in Santa Fe.

Throughout her life she was an active woman, ballroom dancing, playing tennis, and skiing well into her 70s. She was admired for her talent as an artist, her ability to be a friend, and for her interest in all of the people she met. People loved to talk to Marvel.

Marvel is survived by her four children Kathryn Gayle Braziel (Elizabeth Doak), Richard Allen Braziel (Cindy Gardner), Rita Merle Braziel (Keith Lanier), and Janet Ruth Braziel (Robert Lynn). She is also survived by eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one sister, Marjorie Guernsey of Los Lunas. She was loved and cared for by all of them: by long-time friends, by her church family at St. John’s, and by her wonderful caregivers – an independent caregiver and those from Home Instead – and Kindred Hospice.

Services will be held on Friday, November 16th at 4:00 PM, at the Cathedral of St. John, 318 Silver SW. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Mexico Art League at P.O, Box 16554, Albuquerque, NM, 87191 or to the Cathedral of St. John.

"Life is short, and we do not have much time to gladden the hearts of those who share this journey with us. So be quick to love, and make haste to be kind."
