Pastrnak’s hat trick lifts Bruins past Leafs

Flyers shut out struggling Blackhawks; Sabres edge Canucks

BOSTON — David Pastrnak had three goals and an assist to lead the Boston Bruins to a 5-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.

Patrice Bergeron had a goal and two assists, Joakim Nordstrom also scored and Brad Marchand had two assists as the Bruins ended the Maple Leafs’ three-game winning streak and handed Toronto its first road loss of the season. Jaroslav Halak stopped 40 shots.

John Tavares scored the only goal for Toronto, and Garret Sparks finished with 29 saves.

Pastrnak’s second hat trick of the season gave him the NHL scoring lead with 15 goals after he entered in a four-way tie for the most.

After assisting on Bergeron’s goal late in the first period, Pastrnak scored twice in the second and completed got his third of the night with a one-timer with 5:56 left to play.

FLYERS 4, BLACKHAWKS 0: In Philadelph­ia, Sean Couturier had two goals and an assist, Brian Elliott made 33 saves and the Flyers continued their dominance over slumping Chicago.

Claude Giroux tallied a goal and two assists and Nolan Patrick added an empty-netter for the Flyers, who have won five of six overall and 15 in a row at home in the regular season against the Blackhawks. Chicago’s last regular-season win in Philadelph­ia came Nov. 9, 1996.

SABRES 4, CANUCKS 3, SO: In Buffalo, N.Y., Jeff Skinner and Sam Reinhart rallied the Sabres with goals late in the third period, and Jack Eichel and Casey Mittelstad­t scored in the shootout to beat Vancouver.

Hutton made 36 saves and stopped two shots in the shootout, including a final denial moments after Mittelstad­t’s goahead score.

RANGERS 5, BLUE JACKETS 4, SO: In Columbus, Ohio, Jimmy Vesey scored in the fifth round of the shootout to give New York its fifth win in six games.

Vesey and Pavel Buchnevich each had a goal and an assist in regulation, and Zibanejad and Chris Kreider also scored for the Rangers. Georgiov stopped 34 shots.

RED WINGS 4, HURRICANES 3, SO: In Raleigh, N.C., Anthony Mantha scored twice and Frans Nielsen got the deciding goal in the shootout to lead Detroit.

Andreas Athanasiou also scored for the Red Wings, who came back from a two-goal deficit for the third straight game and have won six of their last seven.

PREDATORS 5, STARS 4: In Dallas, Mattias Ekholm scored 2:27 into overtime, and Nashville rallied to beat Dallas.

The Predators (13-3-0) improved to 8-0 on the road this season. They rallied to tie the game three times, the last on Roman Josi’s power-play goal with 43 seconds left in the third period.

PENGUINS 4, COYOTES 0: In Pittsburgh, Sidney Crosby had a goal and an assist, Casey DeSmith stopped 39 shots and Pittsburgh snapped a five-game losing streak.

The skid was the Penguins’ longest since it lost five in a row from Dec. 11-19, 2015.

PANTHERS 4, ISLANDERS

2: In Sunrise, Fla., Aleksander Barkov scored the go-ahead goal in the third period to lead Florida.

Troy Brouwer, Mike Hoffman and Denis Malgin also scored for the Panthers, who won their third straight.

SENATORS 6, LIGHTNING 4: In Tampa, Fla., rookie Brady Tkachuk had a goal and an assist, and Ryan Dzingel scored a tiebreakin­g goal during Ottawa’s four-goal third period as the Senators beatt Tampa Bay.

Matt Duchene, Bobby Ryan, Colin White and Mark Stone also scored for the Senators. Craig Anderson stopped 24 shots.

CANADIENS 5, GOLDEN KNIGHTS 4: In Montreal, Andrew Shaw scored twice, Tomas Tatar had the go-ahead goal and Montreal spoiled former captain Max Pacioretty’s homecoming.

The Canadiens snapped a twogame skid and improved to 9-5-3.
