Top-ranked Irish get scare from No. 9 Oregon State, but pull away

Collier’s double-double leads UConn to rout of Purdue

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Jackie Young scored 23 points, Arike Ogunbowale and Brianna Turner scored 21 apiece, and topranked Notre Dame claimed the Vancouver Showcase championsh­ip, rallying for a 91-81 victory over No. 9 Oregon State on Saturday night.

Oregon State (6-1) led for the first three quarters, but the Irish drew even early in the fourth and pulled away.

The Irish were bolstered by the return of top forward Jessica Shepard, who missed Friday’s semifinal win over Drake with a sore ankle. She scored 17 points and helped the Irish outscore the Beavers 56-36 in the paint.

Destiny Slocum led the Beavers with 22 points. Mikayla Pivec had 17.

No. 2 UCONN 86, PURDUE 40: In St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Napheesa Collier’s double-double paced the Huskies (5-0) to a rout of the Boilermake­rs (5-2) in the final day of the Paradise Jam tournament.

Collier, a 6-foot-1 senior forward, had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Katie Lou Samuelson tied her season high with 22 points and Christyn Williams added 17 for the Huskies), who extended their regular-season winning streak to 120 games.

Collier picked up her second double-double of the tournament and her third this season. She made 7 of 11 shots and 5 of 6 free throws in 23 minutes, and sat out most of the fourth quarter with UConn holding a comfortabl­e lead.

No. 3 OREGON 79, SAINT MARY’S 55: In Moraga, Calif., Sabrina Ionescu scored a season-high 27 points, and the Ducks (6-0) beat the Gaels (3-2) in the Saint Mary’s Thanksgivi­ng Classic.

Ionescu, a returning All-American point guard who went to high school in nearby Orinda, enjoyed a terrific homecoming weekend. The Ducks (6-0) routed UC Riverside on Friday before cruising by the host Gaels (3-2).

No. 4 BAYLOR 67, GEORGETOWN 46: In Las Vegas, Nev., the Lady Bears (6-0) jumped out to a 24-point halftime lead and coasted from there in downing the Hoyas (4-3) at the South Point Thanksgivi­ng Shootout.

No. 5 LOUISVILLE 89, HARTFORD 69: In Las Vegas, Asia Durr scored a team-high 20 points, Dana Evans added 11 points and six assists and the Cardinals (5-0) rallied from a sluggish start to rout the Hawks (2-5) in the South Point Thanksgivi­ng Shootout.

Durr, the Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year, made a pair of 3-pointers and finished 5 of 11 from the field for the Cardinals (5-0), who rallied from an 18-16 first-quarter deficit against Hartford.

Hartford’s Sierra DaCosta scored 21 points. Ella Awobajo had 12 points, and Jade Young scored 11 for the Hawks.

No. 6 MISSISSIPP­I STATE 105, JACKSON STATE 38: In Starkville, Miss., Teaira McCowan scored 19 points in 19 minutes to lead five players in double figures as the Bulldogs (6-0) drubbed the Tigers (1-4).

McCowan finished 8 of 9 from the field and had made 22 consecutiv­e shots over three games before a third-quarter miss against the Tigers .

The Bulldogs did the bulk of their damage in the first half. They led 29-11 after one quarter and 61-22 at halftime with three players in double figures within the first 20 minutes.

No. 7 MARYLAND 58, GEORGIA 51: In Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, Stephanie Jones scored 21 points, and the Terrapins (6-0) held off the Bulldogs (3-3) in the Puerto Rico Clasico tournament.

The Terrapins led 53-51 in the final minute before Brianna Fraser hit a jumper and Taylor Mikesell added a free throw with 20 seconds left to quell the comeback bid.

No. 8 STANFORD 71, AMERICAN 49: In Honolulu, Alanna Smith scored a seasonhigh 25 points, and the Cardinal (5-0) beat the Eagles (3-2) in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown.

No. 10 TEXAS 69, MICHIGAN 42: In Estero, Fla., Jatarie White scored 16 points, Audrey Warren scored a career-high 15 and the Longhorns (5-0) defeated the Wolverines (4-1) in the semifinals of the Gulf Coast Showcase.

No. 11 TENNESSEE 73, UAB 69, OT: In Bimini, Bahamas, Rennia Davis scored 18 points, Evina Westbrook added 16 and Kasiyanha Kushkituah had 13 as the Volunteers (5-0) rallied from a 12-point fourth-quarter deficit and beat the Blazers (4-1) in overtime.

Tennessee claimed the Junkanoo Division of the Junkanoo Jam, and Davis was named the tournament MVP.

FLORIDA STATE 72. No. 12 IOWA 67: In Bimini, Bahamas, Nausia Woolfolk scored 15 of her career-high 25 points in the second half to help the Seminoles (6-1) upset the Hawkeyes (4-1) in the championsh­ip game of the Junkanoo Jam.

No. 14 SYRACUSE 83, NO. 16 DEPAUL 81, OT: In Cancun, Mexico, Tiana Mangakahia had 22 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, and sank a buzzer-beater in overtime to lift the Orange (6-1) past the Blue Demons (3-2) at the Cancun Challenge.

Mangakahia dribbled down the clock, rolled off a high screen to the baseline and sank a reverse layup just before the buzzer.

Miranda Drummond added 21 points and seven rebounds for Syracuse, and Gabrielle Cooper scored 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Stonewall had 25 points and 10 rebounds for DePaul.

No. 17 SOUTH FLORIDA 60, UCLA 56: In St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Sydni Harvey scored a career-high 19 points before fouling out, Laura Ferreira added 14 and the Bulls (5-2) beat the Bruins (3-4) in the Paradise Jam.

Japreece Dean scored 17 points for UCLA (3-4), and Kennedy Burke added 16.

No. 18 CALIFORNIA 70, SAN DIEGO 53: In San Diego, .Kristine Anigwe scored 25 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as the Golden Bears (6-0) capped their San Diego Thanksgivi­ng Tournament by beating the host Toreros (2-3).

Madison Pollock put up 19 points for San Diego, with Sydney Hunter adding 13.

No. 19 ARIZONA STATE 83, SOUTHERN ILLINOIS 38: In Las Vegas, Reili Richardson made three 3-pointers and scored 11 points and the Sun Devils (3-2) rolled past the Salukis (3-3) in the South Point Thanksgivi­ng Shootout.

Kianna Ibis and Robbi Ryan added 10 points apiece for the Sun Devils, who rebounded from a two-point loss to No. 5 Louisville on Friday.

No. 21 MISSOURI 65, QUINNIPIAC 51: In Estero, Fla., Sophie Cunningham scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Amber Smith also had a double-double and the Tigers (4-2) beat the Bobcats in the consolatio­n semifinals of the Gulf Coast Showcase.

Cunningham made 7 of 14 shots and 9 of 12 free throws, and also had three assists and two blocks.

No. 22 MARQUETTE 96, ILLINOIS-CHICAGO 32: In Milwaukee, Amani Wilborn scored a season-high 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season to propel the Golden Eagles (4-1) past the Flames (1-3).

No. 25 WEST VIRGINIA 81, EASTERN KENTUCKY 39: In Bimini, Bahamas, Tynice Martin had 17 points and 11 rebounds, Kysre Gondrezick added 17 points and six assists and the Mountainee­rs (4-1) blasted the Colonels (0-4).

COLORADO MESA 73, WNMU 48: In Grand Junction, Colo., Jaylyn Duran scored 20 points and the Mavericks (3-1) rolled over the Mustangs (2-2). Tatyanna McFarland paced Western New Mexico with 13 points.
