Freshman Barrett helps No. 3 Duke beat Hartford

DURHAM, N.C. — Freshman RJ Barrett had 27 points and a seasonbest 15 rebounds, and No. 3 Duke pulled away to rout Hartford 84-54 on Wednesday night.

Zion Williamson added 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Tre Jones and Javin Delaurier finished with 10 points apiece to help the Blue Devils (8-1) win their third straight. Duke shot 62 percent in the second half to more than make up for hitting just five 3-pointers — matching a season low.

No. 13 TEXAS TECH 65, ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 47: In Lubbock, Texas, Jarrett Culver scored 13 points, Matt Mooney had 11 and Texas Tech remained undefeated.

The Red Raiders (8-0) entered as the nation’s top team in field goal defense, and that trend continued in their first home game this season as a ranked team.

No. 14 NORTH CAROLINA 97, UNC WILMINGTON 69: In Chapel Hill, N.C., Cameron Johnson scored 21 points to help North Carolina to the win.

Freshman forward Nassir Little added 14 points in the Tar Heels’ first game since losing at No. 5 Michigan last week. North Carolina (7-2) led 44-35 at halftime but went on a 30-3 run to blow this one open. No. 15 VIRGINIA TECH 89, VMI 68: In Blacksburg, Va., Justin Robinson scored 18 points to help Virginia Tech cruise to the win.

Robinson hit a trio of 3-pointers for the Hokies (7-1), who won their 21st straight regular-season nonconfere­nce game at home. Virginia Tech topped VMI (5-5) for the seventh consecutiv­e time. No. 17 BUFFALO 89, LE MOYNE 55: In Amherst, N.Y., CJ Massinburg had 13 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists, and Buffalo used a big second-half run to beat Division II Le Moyne.

Dontay Caruthers scored 20 points and reserve Nick Perkins had 18, helping Buffalo (8-0) continue its best start since the 1930-31 season. No. 19 OHIO STATE 77, ILLINOIS 67: In Chicago, Keyshawn Woods scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half, helping Ohio State rally for the win at the United Center.

Kaleb Wesson had 13 points for the Buckeyes (8-1, 2-0 Big Ten). No. 21 VILLANOVA 69, TEMPLE 59: In Villanova, Pa., Jermaine Samuels hit three 3-pointers in the second half that kept Villanova from its worst home losing streak in 25 years.

NEBRASKA 78: In Minneapoli­s, Amir Coffey scored a career-high 32 points, Jordan Murphy had 18 points and 13 rebounds, and Minnesota rallied to beat Nebraska. AIR FORCE 73, DENVER

65: In Colorado Springs, Colo., Caleb Morris scored 16 points and Air Force made 9 of 10 free throws in the final 69 seconds to defeat Denver.

Lavelle Scottie added 14 points with nine rebounds for the Falcons (4-5). BYU 95, UTAH STATE

80: In Provo, Utah, Yoeli Childs matched a season high with 31 points and BYU ended a three-game losing streak with a victory over Utah State.

Childs made 11 of 18 shots and all eight of his free throws for the Cougars (6-4).

Sam Merrill scored 17 points for Utah State (7-2). WYOMING 73, SOUTH

CAROLINA 64: In Laramie, Wyo., Justin James scored 20 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out five assists as Wyoming came back in the second half to beat South Carolina.

James scored 15 of his

points in the second half to help Wyoming (3-6) overcome a 37-33 halftime deficit.

South Carolina (4-4) was led by A.J. Lawson’s 15 points and nine rebounds. ARKANSAS 98, COLORADO STATE 74: In Fort Collins, Colo., Mason Jones scored 16 points and big man Daniel Gafford overcame a sluggish start to finish with 12, helping Arkansas beat Colorado State.

Arkansas (6-1) led by as many as 22 points early in the second when the Rams (4-5) went on a 17-2 run to make things interestin­g. SAN DIEGO 73, SAN

DIEGO STATE 61: In San Diego, Isaiah Pineiro scored 21 points and Isaiah Wright had five of his 18 points in a key stretch in the second half for the Toreros, who stunned San Diego State.

The Toreros (7-2), under first-year coach Sam Scholl, beat the Aztecs (5-3) for just the second time in the last 13 years. FRESNO STATE 71,

WEBER STATE 52: In Fresno, Calif., Braxton Huggins scored 17 points and Noah Blackwell 16 and Fresno State beat Weber State.

Fresno State (6-2) gradually began to take control in the latter part of the first half with a 15-5 spurt in a little more than seven minutes for a 30-20 halftime lead.
