IF THE LATE baseball manager Casey Stengel were a Lobo basketball fan watching the UNMNMSU game, maybe he would have asked the same question that he did while watching his expansion New York Mets team in 1962: ‘can’t anyone here play this game?’ — NM Old Timer

AFTER ONE OF the most embarrassing games in Lobo history. Hopefully Coach Weir will stop his ridiculous method of choosing starters. You can’t keep digging a big hole to start games. And call a timeout when your team is on the wrong side of a big run. You are giving Coach Davie a battle for being the worst coach at UNM. — The Sportsdvl

THE AGGIES destroyed The Lobos. Let’s give Coach Weir another four year contract extension so he can get in on The Golden Parachute UNM provides for coaching services. — RC HAVING SECOND thoughts on Weir, and I was embarrassed when Noodles was here! I know it’s his second year, but it’s also the second year for NMSU head coach. Let the bashing begin. — JG

ONE OF Paul Weir’s mentors, Steve Alford, often told his UNM players that unless they could guard someone, they wouldn’t be playing. I’m not sure who would have played for the Lobos vs. the Aggies. A Merry Christmas to NMSU coach Chris Jans, who earned an extra $10,000 again this year for sweeping (or should we say, destroying) UNM. With Bob Davie evaluating everything, I’d suggest that Paul Weir do the same. We want to support him, but the nearest road heading out of town is paved for getting swept by NMSU. Totally unacceptable. — ’72 Lobo WHY DO WE keep getting articles about U of Maryland athletics? Locksley was a coach here for about 2 seasons and failed miserably. He moved on, (the Journal) should too. — Bryan C. WHEN MIKE LOCKSLEY got hired as head football coach at Maryland, ESPN reported that there were “issues” during his tenure as New Mexico head football coach. For all you “issues” out there, remember, submissions to Sports Speak Up! have to be printable in a family newspaper. — Larry the VOL

WHAT DIVISION I college football conference does not play its championship game on a neutral field but chooses instead to play in the cold and snow? Why it’s the MWC Conference (AKA Bush League) of course. And which school does that so often favor? Why it’s the darling of the MWC, Boise State, of course. — Corrales Guy
