Perez, Moreu to fight for titles

In Salt Lake City, Albuquerque amateur boxers Abraham Perez and Sharahya Moreu will fight for USA Boxing Elite Division national titles today.

Friday, Moreu defeated Rio Rancho’s Jocelyn Shade (a frequent sparring partner) by split decision in the women’s 152-pound weight class. Moreu will face Oshoe Jones of Toledo, Ohio in today’s final.

Perez, who competes in the men’s 114-pound class, will face Michael Angletti of Spring, Texas, in today’s final. Perez defeated St. Louis’ Timothy Jarman in Thursday’s semifinals.

LEO WINS: In Las Vegas, Nev., Albuquerque professional boxer Angelo Leo (15-0, eight knockouts) defeated Erik Ruiz (17-8-1, seven KOs) by unanimous eight-round decision.
