Betty J. Bailey

Betty June Bailey, passed away, November 30, 2018 in Albuquerqu­e, New Mexico, her home for more than 30 years. She was born in Marysville, California on July 23, 1923 to Delbert Hull and Gladys Bird Hull, California­ns from before the turn of the 19th century. She had a younger sister, Beverly Hull (Rich) and a younger brother, Elwin Hull. Her family was artistic, creative, festive - playing music in the local bandstand, creating and selling custom furniture, gardeners and raised commercial orchids.

She married Myrl K. Bailey an Air Force aviator and was stationed in England, Germany, New York, Japan, and Oklahoma to name a few of many assignment­s.

She finished her Bachelors and Masters degrees and Oklahoma State University and then moved to Los Angeles to become a professor at California State University, Northridge. She enjoyed her profession for over 25 years. Upon retirement she moved to Albuquerqu­e.

Betty was a valued member of the Presbyteri­an church in both Brentwood, California and Albuquerqu­e. She volunteere­d helping the homeless people in Los Angeles, worked in gift shops, and volunteere­d tutoring young students in reading, while in Albuquerqu­e.

Five years ago, she moved into Manzano Del Sol and continued to volunteer in the gift shop, fashion shows, and truly enjoyed feeding the tortoises Delilah and Diablo. She was very happy there.

She lived her 95+ years traveling the world, teaching, volunteeri­ng, running an organized household, growing a healthy garden, reading voraciousl­y, playing Scrabble and cards, loving dogs, creating beautiful artwork, necklaces, and designing her own clothes. She was a loving mother, aunt, good friends to many and always a well dressed lady of independen­t character.

She is survived by her son Ken Bailey, her daughter, Janine Strickler, and three grandsons Jonathan Strickler, David Bailey and Peter Bailey. She was loved and will be missed.

Memorial Service and celebratio­n of life will be held at 2PM on Friday, December 14, at the First Presbyteri­an Church, 215 Locust St NE in Albuquerqu­e. In lieu of flowers, Betty requested that donations be made to Doctors Without Borders.
