Boras stirs up winter meetings

- JOURNAL STAFF AND WIRES

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Holding court at baseball’s winter meetings, agent Scott Boras says there are teams ready to move right now on Bryce Harper. But still no word on where the free agent slugger might end up — or when. Boras represents the star, who lives in Las Vegas.

“We’re really at a point where you could be meetings away from a deal,” Boras said. “And then again, you could be in the situation where it’s just further meetings and conversation.”

Harper, 26, had a career-high 100 RBIs while hitting 34 home runs and batting .249 last season for the Washington Nationals.

The presence of Boras qualified as an event in an otherwise sedate week. Neither Harper nor infielder Manny Machado has found a new team. The market is still well stocked with relievers. J.T. Realmuto is still a Miami Marlin, Corey Kluber is still a Cleveland Indian and Yasiel Puig is still a Dodger.

RAYS: All-Star pitcher Charlie Morton and the club reached a $30 million, two-year deal.

YANKEES: After watching two potential fits, Patrick Corbin and Nathan Eovaldi, agree to contracts elsewhere last week, the Bombers were nearing an agreement as of Wednesday with veteran left-hander J.A. Happ.

ANGELS: Free agent first baseman Justin Bour has reached agreement with the team, the Associated Press reported.

TRADE: Washington traded Tanner Roark to Cincinnati for another right-hander named Tanner, less proven Tanner Rainey.
