Beckham Jr. still has hopes for the playoffs
Giants receiver believes divine help will lead team into postseason somehow
Odell Beckham Jr. isn’t certain when he’ll be back, but he remains convinced that the Giants are playoff-bound.
It was something he first floated at the most unlikely of times, when the Giants were coming back from their bye week saddled with a 1-7 record. At that point he said he thought the Giants could win their last eight games and get into the postseason with a 9-7 record. They’ve won four of their last five games since then.
“When we were 1-7 and I sat there and said I feel like we’re going to win every single game, the goal is to win every single game, it wasn’t me just throwing those words around,” Beckham said on Thursday. “And now we’re in that position with the one little mishap (the last-minute loss to the Eagles), I still see us going 8-8.”
Of course, the Giants need more than three wins in their final three games to get in. They also need a complicated recipe of other results. The most direct path for them to get in is if the Vikings, Eagles, Panthers and Redskins all lose two of their final three games and the Packers lose one of their final three.
Beckham thinks it will happen, with some divine help.
“I just feel like He’s got a plan and it’s all going to fall together,” Beckham said. “Whoever needs to lose, and this and that and all the other pieces that need to fall into place, I feel like they’re going to fall into place and we’re going to be in the spot that we want to be in.”
The complicated permutations mean there is only one way the Giants can be eliminated from playoff contention this weekend: a loss to the Titans.
“We’re taking it one day at a time,” Beckham said. “We have a tough matchup coming up against Tennessee, and we’ll see where it goes from there.”
