Carleton, perfect Scott lead Iowa State

Victorious ENMU is 4-0 in the Lone Star

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Bridget Carleton scored 33 points on 11-of-17 shooting, moving up two spots in Iowa State’s all-time top 10 scoring last, and the No. 25 Cyclones defeated Kansas 82-73 on Saturday.

Kristin Scott had a perfect day shooting by going 7 for 7 with three 3-pointers for 17 points for the Cyclones (12-2, 2-0 Big 12). Carleton moved up to seventh on the career list with her 29th 20-point game.

Iowa State, which has won six straight, outscored the Jayhawks 22-12 in the second quarter to lead 39-29 at the half. The Cyclones were 5 of 10 from 3-point range and shot 57 percent overall in the first half.

Christalah Lyons led Kansas (10-2, 0-1) with a career-high 24 points. No. 4 MARYLAND 75, OHIO

STATE 69: In College Park, Md., Kaila Charles scored 24 points, Stephanie Jones added 16 and Maryland (13-1, 2-1) won a rematch of the 2018 Big Ten title game.

This year’s Buckeyes (4-8, 0-3) squad bears no similarity to the one that captured the conference championsh­ip and finished 28-7. Coach Kevin McGuff had to replace all five starters and welcomed eight new players, including six with undergradu­ate degrees.

Freshman Dorka Juhasz, a 6-foot-4 forward from Hungary, led the Buckeyes with 18 points No. 17 GONZAGA 88, PACIFIC 65: In Spokane, Wash., Zykera Rice scored 21 points, Jenn Wirth added 16 and Gonzaga turned up the defensive pressure to win its 11th straight game.

Jill Townsend added 13 points for the Bulldogs (15-1, 4-0 West Coast Conference), who went 23 of 36 in the middle two quarters and held the Tigers (9-4, 2-1) to 10 of 26. Ameela Li led Pacific with 21 points.

55: In Odessa, Texas, Treyanna Clay scored 12 points, including a 6-for-6 performanc­e on free throws, and Alivia Lewis had a career-high 13 rebounds as the Greyhounds (9-3, 4-0) stayed unbeaten in the Lone Star Conference by beating the Falcons (3-9, 0-4). WEST TEXAS A&M 64, WNMU 49: In Silver City, Tyesha Taylor scored 18 points and the Lady Buffs (12-0, 4-0 Lone Star) stayed undefeated with a win over the Mustangs (5-6, 1-2). Cassandra Vickery and Sara Lopez had 12 points each for WNMU. COLO. CHRISTIAN 71, NMHU 55: In Lakewood, Colo., Sarah McGinley scored 27 points as the Cougars (6-7, 4-3 Rocky Mountain) pulled away in the second half to defeat the Cowgirls (3-11, 1-6). Jordyn Lewis paced Highlands with 19 points.
