Lucia (Castillo) (Vigil) Gonzalez passed away peacefully on December 28 after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease. She was born February 7th, 1936 in Los Chavez, NM.

She was an artist, gallery owner, and art instructor for almost 50 years. She loved painting the Southwest. Her paintings can be found in collection­s in Munich, Milan, Tokyo, Seoul, Uruguay and Barcelona. King Juan Carlos of Spain received a Lucia painting as the official gift from NM during his 1983 visit. She was loved by her students.

Easy to laugh and enjoy the moment, she was an amazing mother, sister, auntie, and friend. She enjoyed travel and inspired her children and grandchild­ren to explore the world. She is preceded in death by her parents, Amalia and Cipriano Castillo and her sons, Kevin James and Baby John.

She is survived by her longtime partner James Comunas. Her son Bobby Vigil, grandchild­ren Christophe­r, Sean, Alexandra, and Andrew Vigil. Her daughter and son in law, Wendy and Lewis Kimmelman, grandchild­ren Mia and John Dahl and Ruben Kimmelman, and greatgrand­daughter Amalia Dahl. Sister Del Dickinson and brothers Cipriano (Estella) Castillo, Ruben Castillo, and Ode Castillo. And many beloved nieces and nephews, Vigils and Castillos.

A funeral mass will be 9am Saturday January 12th at The Shrine of Saint Bernadette Church located at 11401 Indian School Rd NE 87112. A Celebratio­n of Her Life with be immediatel­y following the service.
