Everett C. Poncho
Everett C. Poncho, 83, of Encinal, New Mexico, passed away on December 28, 2018 in the family home in Koseville on the Laguna Pueblo.
Funeral service was held 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at The Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Encinal, NM with the Fr. Jerry, officiating. Burial followed at Encinal Cemetery. Arrangements were by family and the mayordomos of Encinal.
Everett was born in Encinal, NM to Joseph and Marie Poncho on September 26, 1935. He went to high school in Bakersfield, California. He was a veteran of the Army and served during the Korean War. After receiving his honorable discharge, he returned to New Mexico to start a new life in law enforcement. He started as a Police Officer and earned his sergeant stripes for the Village of Milan. He then worked for the State of New Mexico Department of Transportation until his retirement. He was involved in Pueblo of Laguna government. He served as Village of Encinal Mayordomo, Village of Encinal Councilman and as honorably as Village of Encinal Staff Officer. In his years of service to the communities of Grants, Milan and Encinal, he inspired and mentored many youth. Many of these fine children have grown up to become law enforcement officers and serve their communities.
His father Joseph, his mother Marie, brothers Wilburt and Howard, and sisters Marcelina and Mary Elizabeth, precedes Everett in death.
Everett is survived by his fiancee, Evangeline "Vangie" Bautista, Daughter Camille Poncho-Pack of Koseville; Sons Eric Poncho and wife Tricia of Albuquerque, NM; Jamie Poncho and wife Synthia of Aztec, NM; Cory Poncho and wife Heather of Kennewick, WA. His grandchildren Kyle, Khaliah, Brandon, Aaron, Taylor Beth, Ethan, Hunter, Jamie-Lynn, Nicolas, Olivia, Zoë, Zion, Kymani and Luna loved him.
Pallbearers were Kyle Poncho, Aaron Lawrence, Hunter Poncho, Ethan Warren, Cory Poncho, Jamie Poncho and Eric Poncho.
In lieu of flowers, he requested donations to American Diabetes Association. The family of Everett Poncho wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all the officers and families of Encinal Village.
