Eugene Roy Koenig, 94, beloved father, husband, and brother, passed away on January 7, 2019. Gene was born and raised in Springfiel­d, MO, and lived in Albuquerqu­e since 1979. He married Patricia Ann Martin on August 22,

1948 in Lincoln, NE. They were married for 68 years until Pat’s death in August of 2015.

Gene graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Nebraska. He was employed as a business manager for Associates Loan Company, Internatio­nal Harvester, and Coronado Glass until his retirement at the age of 65. Once retired, he and his wife, Patricia, worked as realtors in the Albuquerqu­e area.

Gene was a veteran of World War II and served active duty in the Navy from 1943 to 1946. On October 25, 1944 the aircraft carrier that he was stationed on was one of the first hit and sunk by a Kamikaze aircraft in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Gene was awarded the Purple Heart and Victory Medal for his sacrifice and service while in the military. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; and sister, Barbara Koenig.

Gene is survived by his son, Kim Koenig and Cathy Koenig of Atlanta; daughter, Pamela Mohr and Bradley Mohr of Kansas City; and daughter, Sandra Nettleton of Albuquerqu­e. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Koenig, of Sarasota; five grandchild­ren, and three great-grandchild­ren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019, 10:30 a.m. at FRENCH-University. Burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Please visit our online guestbook for Eugene at www.frenchfune­rals.com
