Donald Sias
Donald Sias, a loving husband and father, passed away peacefully on December 23rd, 2018 in the presence of his family at his home in Albuquerque after celebrating his wedding anniversary. Donald was an avid outdoorsman, generous family man, and animal lover.
Donald was born on August 12, 1952 in Pasadena, CA to John and Lucretia Sias. Donald grew up with his two sisters, Lucretia and Helena, and younger brother Bill across California, Illinois, and Connecticut. Donald developed a love for outdoor activities including fishing, skiing, and photography. Donald attended Staples High School in Westport, Johns Hopkins University, and University of New Mexico.
Donald was an intelligent, meticulous, and observant man who spent more than three decades working as a biologist and wildlife photographer. Donald’s passion allowed him to travel and capture the natural beauty of the United States, particularly his beloved state of New Mexico. Donald enjoyed searching for and photographing many different animals including rattlesnakes, bears, tortoises, lizards, and birds of prey. Donald had an acute eye for detail, a generous heart, and a profound respect and appreciation of nature and all of its creatures. Donald enjoyed experiencing life in the outdoors with his family and friends.
Donald is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, John and wife Kimberly; mother Lucretia; sister Lucretia and husband Tim; bother Bill and wife Julia; and his nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his father, John, and sister, Helena. Memorial services will be held at Bosque School’s Budagher Hall on January 19, 2019 at 1 p.m. Donations in Donald’s memory may be directed to the Nature Conservancy of New Mexico or the American International Rattlesnake Museum.
