Lobo Kurgat runs sixth in Seattle

While many teammates were competing Friday at the Don Kirby Invitation­al at the Albuquerqu­e Convention Center, Ednah Kurgat and two other New Mexico Lobos finished in the top 11 of an elite women’s 3,000-meter field Friday in Seattle at the Husky Classic.

Kurgat, who owns the fastest NCAA time this season in a different event, the 5,000, took sixth in Seattle in 8 minutes, 59.78 seconds. Oregon’s Jessica Hull won in 8:53.91. UNM’s Hannah Nuttall was ninth (9:07.64) and Adva Cohen 11th (9:08.40). In the women’s 5,000, UNM’s Emily Martin was 24th (16:25.41). Lobo Keiran Casey ran ninth in the mile (4:41.25)

Action continues today at the Don Kirby, and in New York, UNM’s Weini Kelati runs the 3,000 meters at the Millrose Games. Her race is set to air at about 2:36 p.m.
