Lobos, Aggies open with softball wins
LAS CRUCES — Bailey Klitzke went 4-for-5, drove in four runs and pitched five innings to earn the win for New Mexico, which opened the 2019 softball season with a 15-6 victory over UTEP Friday at the Aggie Invitational.
UTEP helped the Lobos greatly, its four pitchers issuing 16 walks. Monica Salas homered for UNM, which plays Creighton today at 10 a.m. and hosts New Mexico State at 3 p.m.
NMSU opened with an 11-4 win over Creighton. Reigning Western Athletic Conference player of the year Kelsey Horton and Volcano Vista grad Victoria Castro homered for the Aggies, who also play UTEP today at 5:30 p.m.
