Lobos, Aggies open with softball wins

LAS CRUCES — Bailey Klitzke went 4-for-5, drove in four runs and pitched five innings to earn the win for New Mexico, which opened the 2019 softball season with a 15-6 victory over UTEP Friday at the Aggie Invitation­al.

UTEP helped the Lobos greatly, its four pitchers issuing 16 walks. Monica Salas homered for UNM, which plays Creighton today at 10 a.m. and hosts New Mexico State at 3 p.m.

NMSU opened with an 11-4 win over Creighton. Reigning Western Athletic Conference player of the year Kelsey Horton and Volcano Vista grad Victoria Castro homered for the Aggies, who also play UTEP today at 5:30 p.m.
