KAFB Jay Benson Triathlon resumes

The Jay Benson Triathlon will resume in Albuquerque after a fouryear hiatus.

The event will take place on May 12 at Kirtland Air Force Base — its longtime home — after being revived by the Jewish Community Center and the City of Albuquerque.

The race features a 5-kilometer run, a 20K bike ride and a 400-meter swim. The JCC will host a registration event from 6-8 p.m. Feb. 25. Online registration begins March 1 at Active.com.

The race began in 1977, but was canceled in 2013 after the Boston Marathon bombing led to increased security at Kirtland Air Force Base. It was held at West Mesa Aquatic Center in 2014, but has not happened since.
