SPORTS SPEAK UP!
I HOPE AAF takes off. I like the different rules than the NFL. I like the concept of the new league; very refreshing. I was so glad I did not have to be depressed this weekend because there was no football. It was also nice to see (former Lobo Jhurrell) Pressley again. — CDP
TO SAY THAT the UNM basketball team has no identity is an understatement as they don’t even have a set starting lineup. For the Nevada game, Paul Weir should have started his most experienced players heading into that ultra-hostile environment (4 points on their first 25 possessions?). With five consecutive seasons of lousy Lobo basketball, the interest is rapidly fading. Weir is finishing up the second year of a six-year contract. So many aspects of our entire University are coming apart at the seams. Sad to see. — Wolf Alum
DO WE HAVE to start saying there is always “Next Year”? We aren’t even on a lukewarm streak — so cold, Weir bleeds icicles. — JG
CONSIDERATIONS BY the meddling legislature are afoot to throw money to the athletic dept. to resurrect the recently cut (UNM sportrs) programs. While I respect the affected coaches’ and players’ anxiety, I believe the unpopular decision made by President Stokes and AD Nuñez was the right one, for reasons she explained in the Journal. It’s time to move on with a renewed commitment for athletics to operate in the black. — Bob, UNM Area
