Women: UNM at Fresno State

-

What you need to know about New Mexico: The Lobos have won five straight in the series with Fresno State and can significantly help their chances in the Mountain West race with a victory today. To get one they’ll need to contain White, who scored 22 points in the Lobos’ 82-73 win over FSU two weeks ago in Albuquerque. UNM would love to slow the Bulldogs’ potent offense but the visitors won’t mind another high-scoring game. Nunn racked up 23 points and 13 rebounds in the first meeting when the Lobos scorched Fresno State for 48 points in the paint and 34 fast-break points. UNM was outrebounded (36-32) in the first meeting and will need to do a better job on the glass against the undersized Bulldogs.

What you need to know about Fresno State: The Bulldogs are in fourth place in the Mountain West standings but haven’t earned a landmark win. They’re 0-4 against the top three teams (Boise State, UNM and Wyoming) and 8-0 against everyone else. Still, Fresno State is dangerous thanks to its offensive execution and excellent guard play. White is the league’s top scorer. Gamez and Delaney can make opponents pay for overplaying White. Utti is a bit undersized up front but excels on pick-and-roll sets and has a good midrange shooting touch. Fresno State is not as solid on defense despite forcing 17.3 turnovers per game. Opponents have frequently taken advantage of the Bulldogs inside.
