Couple sought in interstate shooting

- JOURNAL AND WIRE REPORTS

Police are looking for a couple who they say shot and injured a man while driving on Interstate 25 over Valentine’s day.

Steven Lovato and Oniesha Herrera, both 22 years old, are wanted in connection to the road rage shooting of 21-yearold Tanner Barnes on Feb 14.

Police say Herrera was driving during the incident and Lovato pulled the trigger. A tipster reported the couple bragged about the incident on Facebook and both are believed to be hiding out in Española.

Lovato is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, shooting at or from a motor vehicle and criminal damage to property. Herrera is charged with harboring or aiding a felon and reckless driving.

The shooting happened around 10:30 a.m. on I-25 southbound, nearing the Martin Luther King Jr. exit.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court, Herrera cut off Barnes and he made “an obscene finger gesture” toward the vehicle.

Barnes told police that’s when the SUV pulled up alongside him and the passenger shot him with a black handgun.

A tipster called police on Wednesday to report that the couple were “bragging” about the shooting on Facebook and Lovato posted a comment saying he had shaved his beard and was hiding in Española.

Detectives pulled Facebook photos of Lovato and Barnes identified him as the man who shot him.
