CATCH OF THE WEEK

Aiden Cashman, 8, of Los Lunas caught an 18-inch largemouth bass Feb. 2 at Elephant Butte Lake. He was using a shad lure.

NOTES from GAME & FISH Fishing at TINGLEY BEACH was very good using homemade dough baits, PowerBait, Fire Balls and wax worms for trout.

Trout fishing on the ALBUQUERQU­E, BELEN, CORRALES and PERALTA DRAINS was good using PowerBait, worms, Fire Balls, wax worms, copper John Barrs, zebra midges and bead head pheasant tail nymphs.

Streamflow on the SAN JUAN RIVER below Navajo Lake on Monday morning was 284 cfs. Anglers did well through the high-quality water area using egg patterns, olive and white bunny leeches, little princess nymphs, emergers and bead head pheasant tail nymphs. Through the bait waters, trout fishing was fair to good using worms, Fire Balls, PowerBait, small streamers and egg patterns.

Fishing at JACKSON LAKE was good using PowerBait and Fire Balls for trout.

At ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE, fishing was fair to good using plastic worms, crank baits, chartreuse and white spoons, swim baits and jigs for largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and white bass. Fishing was good using cut bait for catfish.

Streamflow on the RIO GRANDE below Elephant Butte Monday morning was .39 cfs. Fishing was good using Fire Balls, PowerBait and worms for trout.

Streamflow on the RIO GRANDE at the Taos Junction Bridge was 375 cfs. Fishing was slow to fair using weighted woolly buggers, leeches and spoons for trout.

Monday morning flows on the CHAMA RIVER below El Vado and Abiquiu were 26.2 cfs and 147 cfs, respective­ly. Trout fishing below Abiquiu was good using small pheasant tail nymphs, small copper John Barrs, worms and salmon eggs.

On ice free days, fishing at SPRINGER LAKE has been fair using spoons for northern pike.

Streamflow on the JEMEZ RIVER on Monday morning was 27.1 cfs. Trout fishing on the lower Jemez this past week was good using worms, copper John Barrs, mop flies and PowerBait.

Fishing at FENTON LAKE was good using Kastmaster­s, mealworms, ice jigs, salmon eggs and PowerBait. The ice thickness was about 15 inches.

Ice thickness at EAGLE NEST LAKE was about 19 inches. Fishing for perch was good using worms and ice jigs tipped with worms. Fishing was fair using worms, PowerBait, corn and ice jigs for rainbow trout.

At LAKE MALOYA, ice thickness as of Monday was about 17 inches. Fishing was very good using PowerBait, spoons, tubes, homemade dough bait and ice jigs for trout up to 19 inches.

Streamflow on the RED RIVER below the hatchery on Monday morning was 37.5 cfs. Fishing was fair using salmon eggs for trout.

Streamflow on the PECOS RIVER near the town of Pecos on Monday morning was 26.1 cfs. Fishing in the Villanueva area was good using small nymphs and Fire Balls for trout.

Streamflow on the PECOS RIVER below Sumner Lake on Monday morning was 30.1 cfs. Fishing below Sumner Lake was fair using Fire Balls and worms for trout.

At BILL EVANS LAKE, fishing was good using spoons, PowerBait, homemade dough bait, Gulp dough bait and salmon eggs for trout.

Trout fishing at CHAPARRAL PARK LAKE was very good using PowerBait, worms, spinners and salmon eggs.

At GREENE ACRES LAKE, fishing was good using PowerBait, salmon eggs, worms and spoons for trout.
