I AM SO SORRY to hear about the unfortunate passing of former UNM AD Gary Ness. I took one of his classes back when I was in school and I always thought he was one of the most nicest, grounded, humble people I had ever met. Even after he was promoted to AD, he made time for everyone who wanted his ear. He was a true scholar and a gentleman and will be greatly missed by the UNM family. — George Scott

A GOVERNOR’S campaign promise and some rebuffed legislators are putting all UNM athletics in jeopardy with their “all or nothing” offer for funding tied to reinstating soccer, skiing and beach volleyball. I don’t anticipate UNM taking the minuscule offer of $4.6 million and also being subject to micromanagement. If the $4.1 million that the athletic department initially requested (without reinstatement) is denied, what is the realistic alternative? With football, men’s and women’s basketball along with volleyball being untouchable for UNM to remain in the Mountain West Conference, pick out $4.1 million worth of other sports and sadly cut them. — Wolf Alum

I THINK THAT limiting the Lobo football roster to 85 players would solve all the numerical issues with Title IX after adding back the four deleted sports. No additional sports would be required and football would bleed less red ink. — HR I BELIEVE the time has come to say goodbye to Coach Weir. Just by looking at the ball movement, team defense, and execution on the court from Utah State and other MWC teams that have played UNM this year, it has become painfully obvious that this team deserves a better coach. The only statement that should come from AD Nunez at the end of the season should be “We wish you well in your future endeavors. — Tearful Lobo ANY TALK OF extending Mike Bradbury’s contract? The lady Lobos are the most exciting (and successful) team around! They are athletic, quick and fundamentally sound. — Laura White
