UNM baseball home opener snowed out

In correct anticipati­on of the wet, snowy weather that arrived late Friday, University of New Mexico baseball postponed its home opener against Niagara. The two teams are scheduled for doublehead­ers both today and Sunday beginning at noon. The Lobos are 2-2. Niagara is 0-3, its losses coming in a sweep last weekend at North Carolina A&T.

SOFTBALL: In Honolulu, New Mexico squandered a four-run lead to DePaul, which answered with eight unanswered runs to win 9-5 late Thursday at the Hawaii Invitation­al. The Lobos (3-7) beat Canisius 10-0 Friday as Lauren Wilmert homered and drove in three runs for the Lobos, who were also scheduled to play Hawaii late Friday.

New Mexico State (7-3) was scheduled to play late Friday against North Carolina to continue the Mary Nutter Classic in Cathedral City, Calif. NMSU was checked on three hits and in a 3-1 loss Thursday to No. 17 Oregon.

GOLF: In Manoa, Hawaii, UNM was tied for 11th place, 1 under par and 17 strokes off the lead, after two rounds of the John A. Burns Intercolle­giate.

Senior Sean Carlon led the Lobos individual­ly with a 36-hole total of 1-under 141, good for a tie for 19th.

SKIING: In Anchorage, Alaska, Kornelius Grov tied a UNM record with his fifth Nordic win of the season on Friday and Ricardo IsquierdoB­ernier picked up his fourth secondplac­ed finish as the Lobos won the Rocky Mountain Intercolle­giate Ski Associatio­n Nordic 20K Classical.
