Dean of the College of Nursing says it is ‘poised to accelerate to the top’
UNM nursing programs are among the best in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report rankings.
The University of New Mexico announced Tuesday that its College of Nursing’s Master of Science of Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs have been ranked among the best in the U.S. and tops in the state.
The accolades come from U.S. News & World Report’s 2020 edition of America’s Best Graduate Schools.
UNM officials in a news release said its midwifery master’s program ranked seventh in the county, while its Master of Science of Nursing program was ranked 77th — in the top 15 percent of the country — and its Doctor of Nursing Practice program was 81st — in the top 30 percent.
“This is only the beginning,” Christine E. Kasper, Ph.D., RN, dean of the College of Nursing, said in a statement. “The College is poised to accelerate to the top. Our distinguished faculty are advancing the practice of nursing, and educating the next generation of outstanding researchers, scholars and innovators.”
The school’s College of Nursing has maintained a focus on addressing chronic illness, women and children’s health, and health policy, as well as meeting the needs of the state’s rural and vulnerable populations, UNM said.
U.S. News & World Report every year ranks professional school programs in business, education, engineering, law, medicine and nursing based on expert opinions about excellence, as well as statistical indicators.
