UNITED: WATCH US AT CIVIC PLAZA

- JOURNAL STAFF REPORT

The first-year New Mexico United team details more about its charter flight for fans — and a watch party back home — for its July 10 U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal against Minnesota United of the MLS.

New Mexico United announced that 180 fans are boarding the charter flight on a Boeing 737 to St. Paul, Minn., on July 10 for the game that night against Major League Soccer ‘s Minnesota United in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals.

Albuquerque’s first-year soccer club also announced that the city is organizing a watch party at Civic Plaza that night for the game, which will take place at Allianz Field and stream on ESPN+.

The club originally offered a $249 pre-tax price that included a game ticket, round-trip airfare, transportation to and from the airport and memorabilia, and credited First Financial Credit Union for a subsidy donation to make the charter possible.

The club put those tickets up for sale online Tuesday and said they sold out in minutes. The club offered another set of tickets to fans via a video contest and gave away two sets of two more. On Friday, United announced those winners, though they only identified them by first names.

The club also has said it was working on a lodging deal in the Twin Cities area for one night, but has not publicly revealed any further details. The return flight is July 11.

United has reached the Open Cup quarterfinals by winning four road matches, including the last two over MLS teams . New Mexico is one of two United Soccer League teams still in the competition, with Saint Louis FC being the other. The remaining six are MLS teams.

In USL Championship division play, New Mexico (6-3-8) is off this weekend after going winless in its previous four matches, during which time it has fallen from the lead in the Western Conference to a tie for fourth place. Its next USLC match is July 6 in Utah vs. Real Monarchs.
