SOCCER: Former defender Kate Markgraf has been named general manager of the U.S. women’s national team, U.S. Soccer announced Monday. Markgraf will oversee the search for a coach to replace Jill Ellis, who leaves in October.

MEDIA: Auburn University has named longtime broadcaste­r Andy Burcham to take over as the athletic department’s main play-byplay announcer for football, men’s basketball and baseball. He will replace Rod Bramblett, who died along with his wife in a wreck in May.

NCAA: A bachelor’s degree no longer will be required for agents representi­ng players who want to consider the NBA draft but keep their collegiate eligibilit­y. In other words, the Rich Paul Rule is dead after a week of existence.

COURTS: Former NBA player Sebastian Telfair has been sentenced to 3½ years in prison in a New York City gun case.
