- BY ROZANNA M. MARTINEZ

Westside Summerfest has found itself a new home. “Westside Summerfest has moved around for eight years looking for its forever home, and the new move to Ventana Ranch Community Park will hopefully be the final move,” said Bree Ortiz, events and operations manager for the city of Albuquerque. “The neighborhood has been welcoming and excited for the event to be in the park.”

The event on Saturday, Aug. 17, has changed locations, but attendees can still expect the same fun-filled family-friendly activities.

“The final Albuquerque Summerfest of the year will be packed with all the fan favorites with local artisans, bands, breweries and food trucks,” Ortiz said. “The free kids’ activities will include face painting, inflatable games, and a climbing wall.”

An artisan market will showcase local handcrafted work ranging from pottery, housewares and baked goods to clothing, body products and jewelry, according to the city’s event page.

Adults ages 21 and older can take in the scenery and relax in the microbrew garden. It will feature New Mexico craft beer, wine and spirits from Abbey Brewing Co., Bosque Brewing Co., Boxing Bear Brewing Co., Broken Trail Spirits,

Hollow Spirits Distillery, La Cumbre Brewing Co., Left Turn Distillery, Marble Brewery, Red Door Brewing Co., Sheehan Winery, Steel Bender Brewyard, The 377 Brewery, Toltec Brewing, Tractor Brewing Co., and Turtle Mountain Brewing Co., according to the city’s event page.

There will be plenty of entertainment, including blues-rock group the Todd Tijerina Band, Southwestern vintage rock ’n’ roll band DK & The Affordables and Son Como Son playing Cubanstyle salsa music.

Parking for the event will be at Central New Mexico Community College Westside,10549 Universe NW, and Volcano Vista High School, 8100 Rainbow NW, with free shuttles to and from the park all evening. Street parking may be available in the surrounding area. Parking is not available at the park. A free bike valet will be provided by Esperanza Bicycle Education Center.
