PREP FOOTBALL: GAMES TO WATCH, WEEK 2

7 p.m. Friday unless noted. 1. Los Lunas (1-0) at Clovis

(1-0): This is not the first time these two schools have played each other in football, but meetings are extraordinarily rare. In fact, it’s been 27 years since they last shared a field, in the 1992 playoffs. This was a new game on both team’s schedules; Aztec didn’t want to play Clovis again, and Capital fell off Los Lunas’ slate, creating an opening for this matchup at Leon Williams Stadium.

2. Las Cruces (1-0) at Eldorado (1-0), 1 p.m. Saturday, Wilson Stadium: The Bulldogs hung 55 points on Manzano Friday, but their defense is going to be tested far more severely by the Eagles. An abundance of fun skill-position athletes on both rosters. 3. Carlsbad (1-0) at Goddard (1-0): These two were scoreless at halftime last year in Carlsbad when weather caused officials to cancel the second half, and it went down as a 0-0 tie. The Cavemen are coming off a terrific Week 1 outing against rival Artesia. The 48 points Carlsbad scored on Artesia on Friday night tied for the most it had scored in the Eddy County War dating to 1953; it also scored 48 in 2011. 4. Cleveland (1-0) at El Paso Franklin (0-0): Storm senior running back Dorian Lewis played and attended school at El Paso Andress before he moved to Rio Rancho before his junior season. Storm junior QB Jeff Davison, suspended for the Oñate opener, is expected back for Cleveland. 5. Rio Rancho (0-1) at Pine

Creek, Colo. (0-0): I have no idea how the Rams are going to respond after blowing a 28-point lead and losing in OT to Centennial, and unfortunately for them, Pine Creek might be the best team on their schedule.
