CATCHES OF THE WEEK Marty McNamara of Española caught a 4-pound largemouth bass using a drop shot rig Sept. 1 at Conchas Lake. Angelena Lovato, 11, of Albuquerqu­e caught a 22-inch rainbow trout using peach garlic PowerBait Sept. 2 at Cowles Ponds. Lorenzo Roybal of Velarde caught a 40-inch, 17-pound northern pike using a gold Kastmaster Sunday at Eagle Nest Lake. Buck Gibson of Roswell caught a 36-inch, 22-pound catfish using nightcrawl­ers on the Pecos River 5 miles north of Roswell Aug. 26.

Diane Ciampolill­o of Albuquerqu­e caught a 20-inch, 3-pound walleye using a nightcrawl­er Sept. 3 at Santa Rosa Lake. NOTES from GAME & FISH: Fishing on the ALBUQUERQU­EAREA DRAINS for bass was fair to good using nightcrawl­ers and small crankbaits. Fishing for bluegill was good using small dry flies. At TINGLEY BEACH, fishing for catfish was fair to good using hot dogs, chicken liver, chicken blood Magic Bait and worms. Monday morning flows on the CHAMA RIVER below El Vado and Abiquiu were 803 cfs and 563 cfs, respective­ly. Fishing for trout below El Vado Lake was good using salmon eggs, worms, Panther Martin spinners, nightcrawl­ers, nymph flies, egg pattern flies and PowerBait. Stream flow on the SAN JUAN RIVER Monday morning was 1,220 cfs. Fishing for trout in the highqualit­y water was good using small midge larva and pupa fly patterns in dark colors. Top water fly fishing for trout was fair using midge clusters and Griffith Gnats around grassy banks. There were a lot of mosquitoes last week, and bug spray is recommende­d. At NAVAJO LAKE, fishing for kokanee salmon was good using purple and orange spinners tipped with corn fished 45-75 feet deep near the dam. Fishing at EAGLE NEST LAKE for trout was good using salmon peach PowerBait. Streamflow on the RIO GRANDE at the Taos Junction Bridge was 533 cfs. The water clarity was improving, and fishing for trout in the Gorge was fair to good using Panther Martin spinners and large flies. Streamflow on COSTILLA CREEK near Costilla on Monday was 61.3 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using small dry flies, such as yellow sallies, hoppers and spruce moth flies. At HOPEWELL LAKE, fishing for trout was good using woolly buggers, PowerBait, worms and Pistol Pete spinners. At LAKE MALOYA, fishing for trout was good using PowerBait. Streamflow on the PECOS RIVER near the town of Pecos Monday morning was 40.5 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using salmon eggs, PowerBait, woolly buggers, leach pattern flies and Panther Martin spinners. Streamflow on the RED RIVER below the hatchery Monday morning was 48.9 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using salmon eggs, nymph flies fished as a dropper under a terrestria­l fly, Rapalas and Panther Martin spinners. At UTE LAKE, fishing for bass was good using top water lures early in the morning. Fishing for bluegill was very good using worms. Fishing for white bass at ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE was very good jigging white and yellow Bomber slab spoons, jigging Kastmaster­s and trolling white crankbaits on the north end of the lake. Fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass was slow. Fishing for catfish was good using cut carp, worms, minnows, homemade dough bait, hotdogs, and yellow and chartreuse grubs. Streamflow on the RIO GRANDE below Elephant Butte Monday morning was 559 cfs. Fishing below Elephant Butte for catfish was fair using worms, cut bait and homemade dough baits. At LAKE ROBERTS, fishing for catfish was good using hotdogs. Streamflow on the PECOS RIVER below Sumner Lake Monday morning was 87.5 cfs. Fishing for largemouth bass below Carlsbad was good using translucen­t plastic worms with pepper flake, yellow Rooster Tail spinners, buzz baits and live worms. Fishing for catfish north of Roswell was good using nightcrawl­ers. At SUMNER LAKE, fishing for catfish was fair to good using chicken liver, stink bait and cut bait.
