RIO RANCHO — Senior running back Dorian Lewis ran for 175 yards on 22 carries Friday night, scoring three short touchdowns, as No. 2-ranked Cleveland celebrated homecoming with a 35-10 victory over visiting Mayfield.

After a scoreless first quarter, in which the Storm defense kept Mayfield (2-1) from scoring despite a first-and-goal at the Cleveland 10, the Trojans opened the scoring on a 28-yard field goal for its lone lead of the game. The Storm (3-1) led 14-3 at halftime. Cleveland scored three unanswered touchdowns in the second half: a 57-yard pass from quarterback Jeff Davison to Trey Ortega, plus 5- and 2-yard scoring runs by Lewis.

That second TD by Lewis came after Ortega intercepted a pass from Mayfield quarterback Zach Ingram on the Trojans’ 38.

Nine plays after Ortega’s pick, Lewis — who’d temporarily left the game after taking a hard hit — scored his 2-yard TD.

“I’ve never been hit like that before,” Lewis said. “When my leg went like that, I knew nothing was wrong, but it hurt — it hurt. But then, I just had to suck it up and I knew I was fine. All the rehab paid off.”

Mayfield came right back on a four-play, 72-yard drive, capped by a 34-yard run by Aaron Thompson, who led the MHS offense with 84 yards on 13 carries.

Davison coughed up the ball on the Storm’s next possession, but Mayfield went three and out.

Cleveland went on a quick scoring drive of its own, 65 yards on five plays, which ended with a 4-yard TD run by the quick-healing Lewis with 9:32 left to play.

“Give credit where credit’s due: Mayfield’s a good football program,” Cleveland coach Heath Ridenour said. “We knew their defense was pretty stiff. We didn’t convert some fourth downs (2 of 4 in the first half), third downs (0 for 5 in the first half, 1 for 9 in the game); you convert those, the game’s different.” — Gary Herron ROSWELL 56, LOS LUNAS 33: At the Wool Bowl in Roswell, Dominic Nava threw for 250 yards, Jasia Reese ran for 133 yards and the top-ranked Coyotes (4-0), with a big second half, won a rematch of last year’s Class 5A state final and handily beat the third-ranked Tigers (2-2) once again.

Joel Sanchez added a pick-six for Roswell. The Coyotes gained over 500 yards of total offense. DEL NORTE 15, ALBUQUERQUE HIGH 10: At Milne Stadium, Roman Gandy’s interception near the goal line with under 2 minutes to go preserved the win for the Knights (1-3) in an exciting and entertaining battle.

AHS (2-1) — which had three touchdowns negated by penalty — kicked a field goal early in the fourth quarter for a 10-9 lead. Later in the quarter, Del Norte running back Isaiah Ortiz scored the go-ahead touchdown for the Knights (1-3), but a 2-point conversion failed.

The Bulldogs were driving deep into Del Norte territory late in the game, and got as far as the Knights’ 2 before turning it over. HIGHLAND 22, BELEN 7: In Belen, Noah Lopez was over 100 yards rushing with a touchdown, Nathan Lopez rushed for two scores and the Hornets (3-1) — minus starting QB Andres Ortega, who was injured — won convincingly on the road against the Eagles (1-3).

ELDORADO 28, ATRISCO HERITAGE 7: At Wilson Stadium, Zack Hofman had 136 receiving yards with a pair of touchdowns as the Eagles (2-2) snapped a tough two-game skid by beating the winless Jaguars (0-3).

Ben West and Elias Franco had rushing touchdowns for Eldorado.

ALSO FRIDAY: Moriarty’s Gabe Romero got his first victory as the Pintos’ head coach as Moriarty (1-3) belted visiting Valencia (0-3) 40-12. … Bernalillo (3-1) won big on the road, routing Shiprock 43-6. … In Las Vegas, Hope Christian’s defense pitched a shutout as the Huskies (3-1) blanked West Las Vegas (2-2) 21-0 for third straight victory.
