The legendary Allsup’s bean and beef burritos have a new owner as the Clovis-based chain of convenience stores was sold to Yesway this week.

Yesway announced it entered an agreement to purchase Allsup’s Convenience Stores, which boasts 300 stores in New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma, pending regulatory approval.

In a Yesway news release announcing the sale, the Iowabased company labeled itself as the “fastest growing convenience store chain in the U.S.”

Allsup’s served the Southwest with its renowned burritos, chimichangas and other snack foods for 60 years.

Yesway Chief Executive Officer Thomas Nicholas Trkla said Allsup’s was an historic brand with a legacy his company intended to build upon in the future.

“Allsup’s founders, Lonnie and Barbara Allsup, were true pioneers, innovators, and visionaries of convenience store retailing,” Trkla said. “They were the first to offer customers hot, cooked foods, self-serve gasoline sales, and 24-hour service.

“We could not be more pleased to be joining forces with such a strong, beloved company and talented team of employees.”

Trkla vowed to continue serving the popular burritos, a staple of workers in the industrial and oilfield communities in southeast New Mexico and West Texas.

“We look forward to building on Allsup’s legendary heritage and continuing to offer many of

the amazing products and services Allsup’s customers are so passionate about, including – without question – the worldfamous Allsup’s Burrito,” he said.

Allsup’s President Mark Allsup said he was confident Yesway would continue to serve customers while supporting local communities, an essential value, Allsup said, throughout the chain’s decades in business.

“We chose Yesway as a partner because their values are truly aligned with ours,” Allsup said. “They share our commitment to support the local communities we serve, our unwavering pledge to our customers to provide them with a terrific shopping experience, and our dedication to the success and well being of our employees.”

Barbara Allsup said the first store was opened in Roswell in 1956, and the company has been family-owned since, valuing its role in the community.

She said she hoped Yesway would continue to carry on such values.

“We have always cared deeply about maintaining strong family commitments, having honest, hard-working employees, and partnering with helpful service providers, vendors and other professionals in the communities we serve,” she said.

“We believe that our legacy is in very good hands with Yesway.”
