CATCHES OF THE WEEK

Shawn Roberts of Taos caught a 17-inch kokanee salmon Sunday, fishing from the bank at Eagle Nest Lake using a worm.

Benjamin Naranjo of Albuquerqu­e caught a 22-inch brown trout using night crawlers on the Pecos River on Oct. 1.

NOTES from GAME & FISH

Streamflow on the SAN JUAN RIVER on Monday morning was 604 cfs. Fishing for trout in the “quality waters” section was good using small midge and Baetis fly patterns size 24. Top water fly fishing for trout was good using midge clusters, gray adult midge fly patterns, Blue Winged Olive flies, hoppers and ant flies. Fishing for trout in the “bait waters” was very good using worms and spinners.

At ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE, fishing for white bass was good jigging Kastmaster lures, white Bomber Slab Spoons and using top-water lures in schools of rising fish. Fishing for largemouth bass was good using centipede plastic baits and 3-inch silver Acme Phoebe northern pike silhouette lures. Fishing for catfish was good using live minnows and worms. Fishing for crappie was good using minnows around the marina.

Streamflow on the RIO GRANDE below Elephant Butte on Monday morning according to the U.S. Geological Survey was 0 cfs. Fishing for catfish above Elephant Butte Lake was good using cut bait. Fishing below Elephant Butte for catfish was fair using worms and homemade dough bait.

Streamflow on the RIO GRANDE at the Taos Junction Bridge on Monday morning was 301 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using Panther Martin spinners, streamers, bead head nymphs and night crawlers.

Streamflow on the RIO HONDO on Monday morning near Valdez was 15.1 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using small hopper flies and nymph flies.

Monday morning flows on the CHAMA RIVER below El Vado and Abiquiu were 659 cfs and 697 cfs, respective­ly. Fishing for trout below El Vado Lake was good using hopper flies with leach fly droppers, tungsten bead-head green scud flies, peacock nymph flies, salmon eggs, worms, Panther Martin spinners, nightcrawl­ers and yellow garlic PowerBait.

At EAGLE NEST LAKE, fishing for trout was good using salmon peach PowerBait, yellow glitter cheeseflav­ored marshmallo­ws and Panther Martin spinners.

Fishing for trout at MONASTERY LAKE was good using dry flies, spinners, Pautzke’s pink corn and PowerBait.

Streamflow on the PECOS RIVER near Pecos on Monday morning was 34.2 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using live worms, red San Juan Worm flies, salmon eggs, PowerBait and Panther Martin spinners.

Streamflow on the RED RIVER below the hatchery Monday morning was 43.7 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using salmon eggs, nymph flies and Panther Martin spinners.

At UTE LAKE, fishing for smallmouth and largemouth bass was good using Whopper Ploppers, spinner baits and wacky rigged Senkos.

Fishing for trout on the GALLINAS RIVER was good using Panther Martin spinners.

At TINGLEY BEACH, fishing for bass was good using Senko worms.

Fishing the ALBUQUERQU­E AREA DRAINS for bass was fair to good using small crank baits. Fishing for bluegill was good using small dry flies and small worms. Fishing for carp was good using dough bait.

Fishing for trout in the VALLES CALDERA, RIO SAN ANTONIO and EAST FORK was good using hopper flies with nymph droppers.

Streamflow on the CIMARRON RIVER near Cimarron on Monday morning was 26.5 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using PowerBait, terrestria­l fly patterns, caddis dry flies and small nymph flies.

At CONCHAS LAKE, fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass was good using buzz baits, Whopper Ploppers, Senkos and creature baits.

At GRINDSTONE RESERVOIR, fishing for trout was good using Pautzke Fire Bait Garlic Wildfire and PowerBait.
