Muschamp coaches South Carolina over Georgia, his alma mater

ATHENS, Ga. — Israel Mukuamu returned the first of his three intercepti­ons 53 yards for a touchdown and South Carolina took advantage of Jake Fromm’s four turnovers to beat No. 3 Georgia 20-17 in double overtime on Saturday.

Parker White’s 23-yard field goal in the second overtime proved to be enough when Georgia’s Rodrigo Blankenshi­p was wide left on his attempt from 42 yards.

Georgia (5-1, 2-1 Southeaste­rn Conference) suffered a big hit to its national championsh­ip hopes.

No. 1 ALABAMA 47, NO. 24 TEXAS A&M 28: In College Station, Texas, Tua Tagovailoa threw four touchdowns for the Crimson Tide (6-0, 3-0 Southeaste­rn Conference and Alabama’s offense kept rolling in the Tide’s first game at No. 1 this season with a victory over the Aggies (3-2, 1-2).

NO. 2 CLEMSON 45, FLORIDA STATE 14: In Clemson, S.C., Trevor Lawrence threw three touchdown passes, two to Justyn Ross, and the Tigers (6-0, 4-0 Atlantic Coast) answered any lingering questions from its close call at North Carolina, winning their 21st straight game by pounding the Seminoles (3-3, 2-2).

NO. 5 LSU 42, NO. 7 FLORIDA 28: In Baton Rouge, La., Joe Burrow passed for 293 yards and three touchdowns, and the Tigers (6-0, 2-0 SEC) scored three straight touchdowns after falling behind early in the second half to down the Gators (6-1, 3-1).

NO. 6 OKLAHOMA 34, NO. 11 TEXAS 27: In Dallas, Jalen Hurts threw three touchdown passes to CeeDee Lamb, Oklahoma’s defense sacked Sam Ehlinger nine times and the Sooners (6-0, 3-0 Big 12) never trailed in a victory over the Longhorns (4-2, 2-1).

NO. 8 WISCONSIN 38, MICHIGAN STATE 0: In Madison, Wis., Jonathan Taylor rushed for two touchdowns, Wisconsin’s defense posted its fourth shutout of the season and the Badgers (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) cruised past the Spartans (4-3, 2-2).

NO. 9 NOTRE DAME 30, USC 27: In South Bend, Ind., Tony Jones Jr. rushed for a careerhigh 176 yards and Jonathan Doerer kicked three long field goals as the Fighting Irish (5-1) held off longtime rival Southern California (3-3).

NO. 10 PENN STATE 17, NO. 17 IOWA 12: In Iowa City, Iowa, Noah Cain ran for a 5-yard touchdown with 5:17 left and the Nittany Lions (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) held off the Hawkeyes ((4-2, 1-2).

NO. 15 UTAH 52, OREGON STATE 7: In Corvallis, Ore., Zack Moss rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns, including a 91-yard scoring run in the opening quarter, and the Utes (5-1, 2-1 Pac-12) blasted the Beavers (2-4, 1-2).

NO. 16 MICHIGAN 42, ILLINOIS 25: In Champaign, Ill., quarterbac­k Shea Patterson and the Wolverines (5-1, 3-1 Big Ten) put together a long touchdown drive and the Michigan defense forced two turnovers in a victory over the Illini (2-4, 0-3).

NO. 18 ARIZONA STATE 38, WASHINGTON STATE 34: In Tempe, Ariz., Jayden Daniels scored on a 17-yard scramble with 34 seconds left and threw three touchdown passes to Brandon Aiyuk, leading the Sun Devils (5-1, 2-1 Pac-12) to a comeback victory over the Cougars (3-3, 0-3).

LOUISVILLE 62, NO. 19 WAKE FOREST 59: In Winston-Salem, N.C., Evan Conley ran 41 yards for a critical touchdown with 2:15 remaining, and the Cardinals (4-2, 2-1 ACC) held off Wake Forest’s late rally to upset the Demon Deacons (5-1, 1-1).

NO. 22 BAYLOR 33, TEXAS TECH 30: In Waco, Texas, JaMycal Hasty scored on a 5-yard touchdown run in the second overtime and the Bears (6-0, 3-0 Big 12) beat the Red Raiders (3-3, 1-2).

TEMPLE 30, NO. 23 MEMPHIS 28: Anthony Russo threw two touchdown passes and the Owls (5-1, 2-0 American Athletic) took advantage of four turnovers by the Tigers (5-1, 2-1).

NO. 25 CINCINNATI 38, HOUSTON 23: In Houston, Desmond Ridder passed for 263 yards and three touchdowns and the Bearcats (5-1, 2-0 AAC) held off Houston’s late surge to beat the Cougars (2-4, 0-2).

AIR FORCE 43, FRESNO STATE 24: At Air Force Academy, Colo., Donald Hammond III ran for two touchdowns and threw for another, Kyle Johnson returned an intercepti­on for a score and the Falcons (4-2, 2-1 MWC) pulled away from the Bulldogs (2-3, 0-1) in the second half.

SAN DIEGO STATE 26, WYOMING 22 : Ryan Agnew hit Daniel Bellinger for a 12-yard TD with 2:09 left in the game, giving the Aztecs (5-1, 2-1) a victory over the Cowboys (4-2, 1-1).

NEVADA 41, SAN JOSE STATE 38: In Reno, Nev., Brandon Talton kicked a 40-yard field goal on the final play of the game, lifting the Wolf Pack (4-2, 1-1 MWC) over the Spartans (3-3, 1-2) after the Spartans rallied from a 21-point deficit.

UNLV 34, VANDERBILT 10: In Nashville, Tenn., Kenyon Olbad threw for 172 yards and a pair of touchdowns, Chad Magyar rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown and the Rebels (2-4) beat the Commodores (1-5).

CENTRAL 42, NMSU 28: In Mount Pleasant, Mich., Kobe Lewis rushed for 161 yards and two touchdowns as the Chippewas (4-3) downed the Aggies (0-7).

Aggies quarterbac­k Josh Adkins was 24-for-40 passing for 263 yards and three touchdowns.

CSU-PUEBLO 31, N.M. HIGHLANDS 14: In Las Vegas, N.M., the Thunderwol­ves (4-1, 3-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic) put away a close game with 10 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to down the Cowboys (0-5, 0-5).

ANGELO STATE 31, WESTERN N.M. 14: In San Angelo, Texas, the Rams (5-1, 3-1 Lone Star Conference) pulled away from the Mustangs (1-5, 1-2) with 14 unanswered points in the second half.

TARLETON STATE 49, EASTERN N.M. 10: In Portales, the Texans (5-0, 3-0 Lone Star Conference) showed why they’re the NCAA Division II’s No. 4 team in routing the Greyhounds (4-1, 2-1).
