FRIDAY
Robertson rallies from early hole, wins
It was bitterly cold and host Raton tried to make it even more so for Robertson.
The Tigers punched the Cardinals in the nose on the opening possession, heading right down the field with ease.
And Raton recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff to put Robertson in a bad spot.
But the Cardinals defense stepped up, stopping Raton on the on, then did the same again later in the game.
Thanks to the defensive stands, Robertson (7-1, 2-0 in District 2-3A) came away with a hard-fought 35-7 win.
“It was cold at their place,” Cardinals coach Leroy Gonzalez said. “Playing good on defense always helps. We’re still getting better.”
Matthew Gonzales scored two touchdown for Robertson to spark the offense.
