NM kids may be educated, but at what cost to Earth?

-

Impressive oil and gas boom in southern N.M.!

They need and deserve the same level of services as the rest of the state, and will get the same future as the rest of us regardless. Tax revenues, which oil and gas are bringing in combined with the way Gov. Lujan Grisham is increasing funding for education, creates quite an ironic education for the next generation.

Imagine all those better educated kids being driven on newly paved roads to freshly built schools in towns with better infrastructure and new services; yet look where they are headed. All of New Mexico, rolling down into a future of climate destruction chaos with the rest of the planet, and accelerating beyond belief! A splendid future these happy kids will have thanks to oil and gas!

About the time they grow up, most of our forests will be burnt to a crisp, all too many animal species will have perished, and drought and flood will have devastated agriculture, creating food insecurity.

Earth to Gov. Lujan Grisham: What education will those kids have? That a booming oil and gas economy that does not transition ASAP to renewable clean energy, like “your house is on fire,” leaves us all with a complete ecological collapse of all living systems.

This ironically includes all those kids you will have educated. Perhaps they will learn the irony: past generations educated us, yet did not want to move to 100% renewable clean energy until it was too late to transition to anything but a future that has no future. NICHOLAS BROWN SANTA FE
