The first community input forum in the Albuquerque Public Schools superintendent search is planned for 6 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18 at Sandia High School.

At a Board of Education meeting Wednesday night, the board discussed forums coming up in the next two months and other aspects of the search process, following current Superintendent Raquel Reedy’s retirement announcement.

Reedy said she will be retiring after this school year ends. She was named superintendent in April 2016 after serving as acting superintendent before that.

Nov. 18 is proposed as the first date of 12 feedback sessions that people will get to weigh in on her successor.

APS officials say the list of forum dates and locations, which are slated to be held throughout the district, will be published online at aps.edu once finalized, which is expected soon.

Part of the process is also a five-question survey that will be sent out electronically to employees and parents. Other community members can weigh in on APS’ website, too.

That’s going to be sent out either this week or next week, officials said at the meeting.

The survey asks opinions on the top five characteristics people want to see in the next superintendent and on strengths and challenges in the district.

A call-out for search firm proposals was a topic at Wednesday night’s meeting, as well.

The board discussed a request for proposals for search firms to aid in the school leader hunt.

Members ironed out a scope of work that shows how a firm would fit into the superintendent search. For instance, the scope of work showed a firm would be expected to validate qualifications of candidates, help advertise the open position and solicit to applicable candidates.

The Board of Education has said it would like to have the new superintendent on board by July 1.
