Police ID two men shot, killed by officers

October cases were 6th, 7th shootings by APD this year

Albuquerque police on Friday identified the two men shot and killed by officers in mid-October as Daniel James Wood, 29, and Raymond Tahod, 27.

The two men were killed within about 10 days of each other.

Albuquerque Police Department brass released preliminary information at the scene of each shooting, but have not yet scheduled a full briefing. The briefings are typically conducted anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months after the incidents.

In some cases, police have still not released any information, citing ongoing conversations with their “federal partners.”

The cases were the sixth and seventh shootings by APD this year. Officers also shot and killed a man in July and another in August. Three others were shot and injured throughout the year.

Early in the morning of Oct. 14, APD officers were called to the 400 block of Tennessee NE for a domestic disturbance in an apartment complex. When they arrived, police said they encountered a man with a gun. The SWAT team was called out and ended up entering the home. That’s where they shot and killed Wood.

The other person involved in the domestic disturbance was in the apartment at the time and was not injured.

The day after the shooting, the apartment was boarded up and the other resident had been evicted, according to a notice posted on

the door.

A week and a half later, on the evening of Oct. 25, officers responded to reports of a carjacking in the Northeast Heights.

APD Chief of Staff John Ross said at the time the officers found two suspects, who had entered a different vehicle, and tried to pull it over. Then, he said, the passenger got out of the vehicle and “confronted the officers.” The officers fired, killing Tahod.

Ross said a firearm was found next to his body.
