ELEPHANT BUTTE: He caught a fish “this” big. No, really.

A 9-year-old New Mexico boy landed a 42-pound blue catfish Nov. 10 while fishing in the Elephant Butte Reservoir.

Kris Flores said his son, Alex, made the big catch by himself and shattered dad’s record of reeling in a 36-pound fish.

Flores says the fourth grader named the fish Wailord after the Pokemon character. The father says his son released the fish back into the reservoir after taking some photos and videos.

Streamflow on the PECOS RIVER near Pecos Monday morning was 25.0 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using PowerBait and San Juan worms.

Streamflow on the RED RIVER below the hatchery Monday morning was 41.2 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using salmon eggs and Blue Winged Olive dry flies.

Fishing for trout at SANTA CRUZ RESERVOIR was good using Rapala lures and pink glitter PowerBait.

At UTE LAKE, fishing for white bass was good using Jigging Rap Rapalas, Gulp Minnows and blade baits in 25 to 35 feet of water. Fishing for walleye was good using Jigging Rap Rapalas, Gulp Minnows and blade baits in 30 to 40 feet of water.

Monday morning flows on the CHAMA RIVER below El Vado Lake and Abiquiu Lake were 1,200 cfs and 1,170 cfs, respectively. Fishing for trout below Abiquiu Lake was slow.

RIVER on Monday morning was 329 cfs. Fishing for trout in the “quality waters” was very good using small dark midge pattern flies and Blue Winged Olive flies. Fishing the lower section of river for trout was good using Baetis pattern flies. Fishing has been a good using dry flies.

Streamflow on the RIO GRANDE at the Taos Junction Bridge Monday morning was 306 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using small mayfly dry flies, Blue Winged Olives, nymphs and emergers in the afternoons.

Streamflow on the RIO GRANDE below Elephant Butte Monday morning was 0.46 cfs. Fishing near Hatch for catfish was good using minnows.

At ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE, fishing for catfish was fair using cut bait.
