Coach K gets milestone as Blue Devils pummel Cal

Ewing, Hoyas upset Texas at Madison Square Garden

NEW YORK — Mike Krzyzewski won his 217th game with Duke ranked No. 1, matching John Wooden for the career coaching record in the Blue Devils’ 87-52 romp over California on Thursday night at Madison Square Garden.

Krzyzewski is 217-34 when the Blue Devils hold the top spot, a mark they hit this week in The Associated Press poll. Wooden went 21711 during his run at UCLA.

Krzyzewski can set the record Friday night at MSG if the Blue Devils (5-0) knock off Georgetown in the final of the 2K Empire Classic.

NO. 12 TEXAS TECH 72, TENNESSEE STATE 57: In Lubbock, Texas, Davide Moretti scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half, including all four of his 3-pointers, and the Red Raiders (4-0) Texas Tech finally pulled away from Tennessee State (3-2).

NO. 14 ARIZONA 71, S.D. STATE 64: In Tucson, Ariz., Josh Green scored 15 points, Nico Mannion added 14 and the Wildcats (5-0) pulled away from South Dakota State (4-3) in the final minutes.

NO. 17 VILLANOVA 98, MIDDLE TENNESSEE 69: In Myrtle Beach, S.C., Cole Swider scored a career-high 26 points, hitting six 3-pointers, and the Wildcats (3-1) routed the Blue Raiders (3-2) in the Myrtle Beach Invitation­al quarterfin­als.

NO. 18 XAVIER 73, TOWSON 51: In Charleston, S.C., Tyrique Jones had 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Musketeers (5-0) past the Tigers (2-3) in the Charleston Classic.

GEORGETOWN 82, NO. 22 TEXAS 66: In New York, Mac McClung scored 19 points to help give coach Patrick Ewing another signature moment at Madison Square Garden, leading the Hoyas (4-1) to a victory over the Longhorns (4-1).

The Hoyas are trying to make their first NCAA Tournament since 2015 and an early win over a Top 25 team could give that resume a boost.

NO. 24 BAYLOR 76, OHIO 53: In Myrtle Beach, S.C., Jared Butler scored 19 points and the Bears (3-1) pulled away to beat the Bobcats (3-2) in the Myrtle Beach Invitation­al quarterfin­als.

WYOMING 69, LOUISIANA 61, OT: In Laramie, Wyo., Hunter Thompson scored 21 points, including a key 3-pointer in overtime, as the Cowboys (3-3) beat the Ragin’ Cajuns (3-2). LOYOLA MARYMOUNT

78, AIR FORCE 64: In Bimini, Bahamas, Ivan Alipiev scored 18 points as the Lions (2-2) defeated the Falcons (2-3) in the Junkanoo Jam.

NO. 2 BAYLOR 90, LAMAR 28: In Waco, Texas, graduate transfer Erin DeGrate scored 19 points, NaLyssa Smith added 18 on 8-of-8 shooting and Queen Egbo had another double-double as the defending national champion Lady Bears (5-0) won their 34th game in a row, crushing the Cardinals (1-3).

NO. 5 SOUTH CAROLINA 112, S.C. UPSTATE 32: In Columbia, S.C., freshman Aliyah Boston scored a career-high 18 points, senior Ty Harris also had 18 and the Gamecocks (5-0) blasted South Carolina Upstate (3-3).

NO. 7 OREGON STATE 94, SO. UTAH 45: In Corvallis, Ore., guard Mikayla Pivec had 18 rebounds to go along with 10 points and seven assists as the Beavers (5-0) rolled past Southern Utah (3-2). It was her second 18-rebound game of the season.

NO. 8 LOUISVILLE 86, CHATTANOOG­A 37: In Louisville, Ky., Dana Evans scored 18 points and the Cardinals (4-0) held Chattanoog­a to 24.6% shooting, forced 18 turnovers and outrebound­ed the Mocs (1-6) 59-28.

NO. 10 MISSISSIPP­I STATE 92, JACKSON STATE 53: In Jackson, Miss., Jessika Carter had 21 points and eight rebounds to help the Bulldogs (5-0) rout the Tigers (1-4). NO. 13 KENTUCKY 79,
