SPORTS SPEAK UP!

YEARS AGO I overheard a Lobo fan say “it’s tough to root against a military academy” before the start of a UNM-Air Force football game. Not really. Especially when after soundly defeating UNM, then Air Force coach Fisher DeBerry got on the PA system at Falcon Stadium and stated “we stuck the dagger in and twisted it.” Also, it’s disappointing that the UNM Athletic Department didn’t adequately market their Heroes Day tribute which will recognize military and first responder personnel and equipment, 150 breast cancer survivors and remember Lobo player Nahje Flowers.

COACH DAVIE: Sincere thanks for your efforts over the past 8 years attempting to get Lobo Football to at least a competitive level. However, I have to believe that the results have not been what you, the University, and the fans had hoped for and it should be obvious that someone with a “different approach” should now have the opportunity to see if he can “move the needle” — toward a more favorable result.

Good luck in your future endeavors and thanks again for your dedicated interest in Lobo Football in the past.

LOUSY JOB BY Coach Weir at the end of the Aggie game. We had no set play to inbound the ball and the wrong cast of characters on the floor. We needed some speedy ball handlers but they were on the bench. Disappointing.

I ASKED IT last season and I’ll ask it again this season: How in the world can all these tall Lobos miss so many layups and shots from right under the basket?

EDDIE NUÑEZ couldn’t get more money to fund mental health services for studentathletes but found room in the budget for women’s basketball to travel to Italy? Give me a break.
