SF ANIMAL SHELTER & HUMANE SOCIETY

Stop by the Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society to meet Saphora.

She is a 4-year-old, 45-pound mixed-breed pup who really enjoys long hikes, playtime and cuddles.

Marjorie is a sweet-assugar 8-year-old domestic shorthaired kitty who weighs 9 pounds. Listen closely and you will hear her purr.

These and other animals are available for adoption from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter at 100 Caja del Rio Road. The shelter’s adoption hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. daily. The shelter and its facilities will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28, in observation of Thanksgiving.

You can follow the shelter on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and see other pets up for adoption online at www. sfhumanesociety.org or call 983-4309 ext. 610.

Does your dog love other dogs? Santa Fe Animal Shelter will present a new free community class titled Safe Dog Play today at the shelter. Just like humans, dogs have a different style of social skills. Some dogs are the life of the party, while others are the odd man out. Not all pups will get along, and that’s OK. In this lecturestyle class, learn more about what is fair game between dogs and what is not. Hear from industry experts on appropriate pup communication and how to keep them safe during playtime at the dog park. The class is free, but please register at bit.ly/ sfasdogplay.

Visit adoptable animals in the community during the shelter’s adoption event on Saturday, Nov. 30, noon-3 p.m. at PetSmart Santa Fe, 3561 Zafarano Dr.

Also, the shelter has announced that it will waive the adoption fee on all cats six months and older for the rest of November. All cats adopted from the shelter are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and come with one month of pet insurance, plus a bag of food.

ESPAÑOLA HUMANE

Come to Española Humane to meet a sweet dog and a special cat who need forever families.

Bruno Mars has been nurtured in foster care for over eight weeks. He was surrendered to the shelter absolutely terrified — staff could hardly touch him and couldn’t even get a leash on to take him for walks. Through foster care, Bruno is now crate-, leash- and house-trained; he loves other dogs and cats, especially his foster fur-family. He accepts treats, pets and lap time, and he goes on several walks and hikes per day where he sees people and other animals. Bruno is 3½ years of Chihuahua awesomeness looking for a patient and persistent forever person to further help him trust and love. His adoption fee is waived and he is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines; he will go home with six months of free heartworm prevention. Come set up a meet and greet with his foster family.

Jadies is one special kitty who arrived at the shelter with severe conjunctivitis in her eyes, but despite treatment and intensive care, her eyes weren’t getting better. Our veterinary team diagnosed her with a condition called entropion, meaning her eyelids were folded under and her eyelashes were inside her eyelids, painfully scratching her corneas each time she blinked. Shelter vets performed an entropion surgery and her eyes started healing almost immediately. She is ready for a new life outside of the shelter — she can see clearly now and she’s ready for a bright future. Her adoption fee is waived, and she’s spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

These two and many others may be adopted daily from 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at Española Humane, 108 Hamm Parkway in Española. 505-753-8662. To see more adoptable pets, log on to www. espanolahumane. org or www.petango. com. The shelter will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28, in observation of Thanksgiving and also Friday, Nov. 29.
