Arizona State upsets Oregon, damages Ducks’ playoff hopes

COLUMBUS, Ohio — J.K. Dobbins rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns and No. 2 Ohio State locked up the Big Ten East title Saturday, surviving its first real test of the season with a 28-17 victory over No. 9 Penn State.

The Buckeyes (10-0, 8-0 Big Ten) held on after Penn State (9-2, 7-2) took advantage of two second-half turnovers to climb back into the game in the third quarter after going down 21-0.

NO. 1 LSU 56, ARKANSAS 20:

In Baton Rouge, La., Joe Burrow passed for 327 yards and three touchdowns, Clyde EdwardsHel­aire rushed for a career-high 188 yards and three TDs and the Tigers (11-0, 7-0) clinched their first trip to the Southeaste­rn Conference championsh­ip game since 2011 with a rout of the Razorbacks (2-9, 0-7).

NO. 4 GEORGIA 19, NO. 24 TEXAS A&M 13: In Athens, Ga., George Pickens scored Georgia’s only touchdown, Rodrigo Blankenshi­p booted four field goals and the defense stymied Texas A&M, leading the Bulldogs (101, 7-1 Southeaste­rn Conference) past the Aggies (7-4, 4-3).

NO. 5 ALABAMA 66, WESTERN CAROLINA 3: In Tuscaloosa, Ala., Mac Jones passed for 275 yards and three touchdowns in little more than a half and the Crimson Tide (10-1) began life without injured star quarterbac­k Tua Tagovailoa with a romp over the Catamounts (3-9).

ARIZONA STATE 31, NO. 6 OREGON 28: In Tempe, Ariz., freshman Jayden Daniels completed 22 of 32 passes for 408 yards and three touchdowns and the Sun Devils (6-5, 3-5 Pac-12) sprang a major upset in beating the Ducks (9-2, 7-1).

Arizona State ended Oregon’s College Football Playoff hopes and its nine-game winning streak. The Sun Devils snapped a four-game losing streak.

NO. 7 UTAH 35, ARIZONA 7:

In Tucson, Zack Moss ran for a season-high 203 yards and the Utes (10-1, 7-1 Pac-12) rolled past the Wildcats (4-7, 2-6).

Utah has won seven straight games and is the lone Pac-12 team in serious contention for a spot in the College Football Playoff after No. 6 Oregon lost to Arizona State 31-28 earlier on Saturday.

NO. 8 OKLAHOMA 28, TCU 24:

In Norman, Okla., Jalen Hurts passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more as the Sooners (10-1, 7-1 Big 12) beat the Horned Frogs (5-6, 3-5) to clinch a spot in the Big 12 championsh­ip game.

NO. 11 MINNESOTA 38, NORTHWESTE­RN 22: In Evanston, Ill., Tanner Morgan led the Gophers (10-1, 7-1 Big Ten) to scores on their first three possession­s and finished with four touchdown passes in a comfortabl­e victory over the Wildcats (2-9, 0-8).

NO. 12 MICHIGAN 39, INDIANA 14: In Bloomingto­n, Ind., Shea Patterson threw five touchdown passes and Nico Collins scored a career-high three times to lead the Wolverines (8-2, 6-2 Big Ten) to a blowout of the Hoosiers (7-4, 4-4).

NO. 13 BAYLOR 24, TEXAS 10: In Waco, Texas, Charlie Brewer accounted for 296 yards and two touchdowns and the Bears (10-1, 7-2 Big 12) wrapped up a spot in the Big 12 championsh­ip game with a victory over the Longhorns (6-4, 4-4).

NO. 14 WISCONSIN 45, PURDUE 24: In Madison, Wis., Jonathan Taylor rushed for 222 yards on 28 carries as the Badgers (9-2, 6-2 Big Ten) handled the Boilermake­rs (4-7, 3-5).

NO. 15 NOTRE DAME 39, BOSTON COLLEGE 7: In South Bend, Ind., Ian Book threw three touchdown passes and the Fighting Irish (9-2) corralled BC star running back AJ Dillon in downing the Eagles (5-6).

NO. 16 AUBURN 52, SAMFORD 0: In Auburn, Ala., the Tigers (8-3) held Samford (5-7) to 114 yards and forced four turnovers, JaTarvious Whitlow scored twice and Auburn tuned up for next Saturday’s Iron Bowl against Alabama.

NO. 17 CINCINNATI 15, TEMPLE 13: In Cincinnati, Michael Warren II ran 13 yards for a touchdown on a cold, raw night, Coby Bryant went 98 yards with a blocked extra-point attempt and the Bearcats (10-1,7-0) beat the Owls (7-4, 4-3) and clinched a spot in the American Athletic title game.

NO. 18 MEMPHIS 49, SOUTH FLORIDA 10: In Tampa, Fla., Brady White threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns as the Tigers (10-1, 6-1 American Athletic Conference) shrugged off two early turnovers to beat the Bulls (4-7, 2-5) and retain a share of first place in the American Athletic Conference West

NO. 19 IOWA, ILLINOIS 10: In Iowa City, Iowa, Nate Stanley threw for 308 yards and Keith Duncan kicked four field goals to set a Big Ten-season mark as the Hawkeyes (8-3, 5-3 Big Ten) defeated the Illini (6-4, 4-4).

NAVY 35, NO. 21 SMU 28: In Annapolis, Md., Navy quarterbac­k Malcolm Perry generated 357 yards of total offense and scored the game-winning touchdown as the Midshipmen (8-2, 6-1 American Athletic Conference) beat the Mustangs (9-2, 5-2).

NO. 22 OKLAHOMA STATE 20, WEST VIRGINIA 12: In Morgantown, W.Va., Dru Brown threw two touchdown passes in his first start, Chuba Hubbard surpassed 100 yards rushing for the ninth consecutiv­e game and the Cowboys (8-3, 5-3 Big 12) beat the Mountainee­rs (4-7, 2-6).

NO. 23 APPALACHIA­N STATE 35, TEXAS STATE 13: In Boone, N.C., Darrynton Evans ran for 154 yards and three second-half touchdowns as the Mountainee­rs (10-1, 6-1 Sun Belt) handled the Bobcats (3-8, 2-5).

NO. 25 VIRGINIA TECH 28, PITTSBURGH 0: In Blacksburg, Va., Hendon Hooker threw for 153 yards and two touchdowns as the Hokies (8-3, 5-2 Atlantic Coast) beat the Panthers (7-4, 4-3).

UNLV 38, SAN JOSE STATE 35: In Las Vegas, Nev., Charles Williams scored from the 1 in the final 1:15 and Kolo Uasike picked off a last-gasp pass as the Rebels (3-8, 1-6) came out on top of a wild fourth quarter to defeat the Spartans (4-7, 1-6).

WNMU 23, NMHU 17: In Las Vegas, N.M., CJ Fowler threw three touchdown passes, including the game-winner to Reggie Colson III in the fourth quarter, as the Mustangs (2-10) defeated the Cowboys (2-9) in a game billed as La Batalla Bowl.
