TUESDAY GIRLS BASKETBALL LOS ALAMOS 39, ST. MICHAEL’S 37, OT:

Rebecca Green scored 17 points and Natalie Gallegos added eight to help the host Hilltopper­s (1-0) outlast the Horsemen (0-1) in the season opener. Rachel Morgan scored 13, including the game-tying shot to send it into overtime, and Carisa Padilla added 12 for the Horsemen. “We played well enough to get it into overtime,” said Los Alamos’ Lanse Carter. “And in overtime, I think we showed our competitiv­eness.”

POJOAQUE VALLEY 50, CAPITAL 39:

Hennessei Calabaza had 14 points and five steals, Michaela Martinez added 12 points, five rebounds and four thefts and Ashten Martinez tossed in nine points, five boards, seven steals and five assists to lead the Elkettes (1-0) over the Jaguars (0-1). Rebecca Sorenson scored 15 and Ethena Silva added 11 for Capital.

CROSS COUNTRY

Buoyed by strong performanc­es from Sophie Chadwick and Norissa Valdez, the Los Alamos girls finished ninth in a loaded field at the recent Nike Cross Regionals in Casa Grande, Ariz. Chadwick finished in 18 minutes, two seconds to take 24th place and Norissa Valdez in 18:32 for 61st.
