LSU, Ohio State players highlight All-America teams

MWC suspends 4 UNLV players for postgame fight

No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Ohio State each placed three players on The Associated Press All-America first team released Monday.

Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow of LSU highlights the firstteam offense and Heisman finalist Chase Young of Ohio State leads the defense on the team presented by Regions Bank that was chosen by a panel of 15 college football poll voters.

The top-ranked Tigers also placed receiver Ja’Marr Chase and cornerback Derek Stingley on the first team. Young was joined on the first team by Ohio State by teammates Wyatt Davis, a guard, and Jeff Okudah, a cornerback. No. 3 Clemson’s only first-team All-American was linebacker Isaiah Simmons. No. 4 Oklahoma was represente­d on the first team by receiver CeeDee Lamb.

No. 5 Georgia, Kentucky and No. 11 Wisconsin were the other teams with multiple first-team selections. Georgia placed tackle Andrew Thomas and safety J.R. Reed on the All-America team.

Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor is the only player to repeat as a first-team All-American this season. Badgers center Tyler Biadasz also made the first-team.

Kentucky had punter Max Duffy, and Lynn Bowden Jr., the receiver turned quarterbac­k, who made the first team as an all-purpose player. Bowden leads the Wildcats in rushing and receiving this season.

Ohio State led all teams with seven players selected to the three All-America teams, including quarterbac­k Justin Fields, who made the second team.

No. 9 Alabama had no players selected to the first team for the first time since 2010, but had five players combined on the second and third teams. Oklahoma, Utah also had five selections on the three teams and LSU and Clemson each had four.

UNLV: The Mountain West Conference has suspended four UNLV football players and reprimande­d another for their involvemen­t in an altercatio­n following a game against rival Nevada.

The conference announced Monday that Evan Austrie, Noah Bean, Giovanni Fauolo Sr. and Justin Polu were issued suspension­s and Steve Jenkins a public reprimand for the postgame fight on Nov. 30.

Fauolo will be suspended for the first two games of the 2020 season, Bean will miss the season opener and Polu will be suspended for half a game.

Four Nevada players were suspended last week for their involvemen­t in the fight.

STANFORD: Offensive tackle Walker Little said Monday he will return for his senior season in 2020 instead of entering the NFL draft.

Little was considered a top draft prospect before going down with a season-ending knee injury in the season opener against Northweste­rn.

Little was a freshman All-American in 2017 and a first-team AllPac-12 pick the following season.

Little said he wants to earn his degree and help the Cardinal get back to their winning ways after a 4-8 season this year.

COMEBACK PLAYER: Oregon State quarterbac­k Jake Luton, Minnesota defensive back Antoine Winfield Jr., and Kentucky linebacker Josh Paschal are among the major college football finalists for the Comeback Player of the Year award.

The other finalists in FBS are Georgia Southern offensive lineman Drew Wilson and Notre Dame cornerback Shaun Crawford.

LOTT TROPHY: Derrick Brown of Auburn has won the Lott IMPACT Trophy given to the nation’s top defensive player who excels in both performanc­e on the field and character off it.

USC: Offensive coordinato­r Graham Harrell is staying at Southern California.

Harrell and the Trojans (8-4) have agreed to a multiyear contract extension, the school announced Monday.

The 34-year-old Harrell was a widely sought candidate for other top collegiate jobs after his sole season running the Trojans’ offense, including the open offensive coordinato­r position at Texas and some head coaching positions.
