SPORTS SPEAK UP!

- OK ROCKY LONG supporters, you sportsspeakup@abqjournal.com

THE SPORTS COMMUNITY lost a great young man in the passing of Austin Denton. Austin inspired all of us with his positivity, toughness, and extreme loyalty. I would have taken him on my team any day of the week. You will be missed Austin!

— Charlie Dotson, Eldorado Athletics

CONGRATULATIONS TO Danny Gonzales for becoming the next Lobo football coach. Now the community needs to rally behind and support him, he is local boy.

— Bob of NM

COACH GONZALEZ:

Congratulations. Now let’s see if the golden goose treats home grown the same.

— RC

better be at the football stadium on Saturday when your hero returns. And with the hiring of the new football coach who worked with Rocky, there should be a surge in the sale of football tickets for 2020! You have whined for years, the AD and the UNM heard you, so let’s hear it for ticket sales!

PAYING AN AGENCY $50,000 to look for another losing football coach is ridiculous when this can be done with some phone calls by a secretary of the Athletic Department. Just another embarrassing situation piled on the Davie fiasco that has already being filled with negative drama.

— LionKing

THE NEW head football coach at UNM should be able to get them to an annual 7-5 record with a couple of losses each year to the Big 10, SEC or Pac-12 for big paydays that make the budget balance. How long will it be before we hear from the New Mexico crowd that thinks little guys from Menaul High School can compete against the SEC?

— Larry the VOL

SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT with the women’s basketball program and Coach Bradbury and/or AD Nuñez need to be transparent with us, the loyal fans who support this program like no other in the MWC or even the nation for that matter.

— UNM alum

IN ADDITION to a new head coach, the Dallas Cowboys need a new owner and as soon as I can come up with the cash, I’ll take care of that for you!
