‘MOVING FORWARD’
Comedy shows streaming live from Tricklock twice a week
In any given week, Kevin Kennedy was producing at least three types of shows.
His schedule has slowed. He didn’t want it to stop completely, so he got together his comedian friends to keep the laughs coming.
Kennedy invites two other comedians on Tuesday and Thursday to host “QuaranTime Komedy Friends,” which streams on Facebook.
In previous weeks, Kennedy tried to properly social distance by using Zoom.
“The sound was awful, and there was a lag,” Kennedy says. “We had to figure out something.”
Kennedy asked to use Tricklock Performance Laboratory in Downtown Albuquerque.
For almost two weeks, Kennedy has invited two other comedians to the space to stream the show.
“We can only have four people in the room,” Kennedy says. “Since it’s a big space, we pretty much stay 10 feet apart. We have Lysol and hand sanitizer to make sure everyone is being safe.”
Comedians who have appeared on the show include Tyler Lovely, Jared Ostrum, Danger K Varoz, Isiah Yazzie and Robert Eyster.
The show is finding an audience online.
“The views on Facebook are more than the amount of people we get coming to a live show,” Kennedy says. “I upload the video after the show so people can watch at their leisure. The key to this is everyone is staying home and keeping a distance.”
There’s also an upside to being able to record the performances, Kennedy says.
“When it goes online, it gives access to more people than just Albuquerque,” he says. “Friends and family from all over the country have reached out and say they are watching. It’s a very cool tool to have.”
With talks of the theater potentially opening around June 1, Kennedy says plans to keep the comedy shows going at Tricklock are underway.
“We can completely change the seating so people are 6 feet away from each other,” he says. “We’re still going to be very safe.”
During the show, there is a “donate” button for any viewers wish to help.
Kennedy says he gives any donations to the comedians.
“This is a family that I want to continue to support,” he says. “It’s important to keep local comedy moving forward. There’s such a strong scene here.”
