SF ANIMAL SHELTER & HUMANE SOCIETY

-

While it looks like social distancing is continuing to be the norm for a while, it is very easy to adopt a pet from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane society.

Meet Madam. She is a 4-year-old mixed-breed dog who found her way to Santa Fe from another New Mexico shelter. She currently weighs about 40 pounds, which is a great size for a girl like her. She walks well on leash, loves to play and is ready to find her way into your heart. Come meet this cuite today.

Looking for a kitten instead? Meet Nemo. He is a handsome 2-month-old kitten who came to us from a wonderful foster home. Nemo loves to romp around with toys and cat wands. He currently weighs 2 pounds and will likely grow to be 10-12 pounds as an adult. Nemo is super friendly. Call our adoptions department to schedule an appointment to meet one of the many kittens currently in our care.

These and other animals are available for adoption from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter at 100 Caja del Rio Road. The shelter’s adoption hours during the pandemic are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. daily and are by appointment only. Please call 505-983-4309 to schedule an appointment.

For updated COVID-19 shelter policies, visit SFHumaneSociety.org. You can also follow the shelter on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The Santa Fe Animal Shelter, along with Modelo Especial, is providing a helping hand to veterans who would like a furry friend.

The Modelo Especial “Pets for Vets” program provides fee-waived adoptions for veterans who also receive training classes provided by the shelter. Studies have shown that pets can help reduce the symptoms of PTSD, including depression and anxiety.

For 10 special veterans, the program will waive the adoption fee on adult dogs and include enrollment in one of the shelter’s basic dog training courses. In addition to this program, the Santa Fe Animal Shelter offers all veterans 50% off adoptions throughout the year. In order to participate in the program, you will have to show a valid Military ID or DD214. For more information, log on to the shelter’s website at SFHumaneSociety.org or call the shelter directly at 983-4309.

ESPAÑOLA HUMANE

Find unconditional love and affection in the time of COVID-19. Adopt a new furbaby from Española Humane! Santana is a staff favorite. She has strabismus, which causes her eyes to cross. Shelter staff isn’t sure what caused this condition, but it doesn’t bother her and it only makes her more endearing. Santana is sweetness squared: she’s a gentle chocolate lab mix with the most fabulous feathered fur on her back, like Heather Locklear in the ’80s. Submit an application for this rock star of a dog. She’s spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested and goes home with six months of heartworm prevention!

You’ll go over the moon when you meet this kitten. Luna is a full lunar eclipse of love. This sweet kissable smoochy-face purrball is fresh from foster care, and she’s spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and ready to go home furever! Thank you for adopting!

The shelter is closed to walkin traffic and adoptions are by appointment only; submit an application on the shelter’s website and someone from the adoptions team will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. If you’ve recently submitted an application, you can call the reception team to schedule an appointment at 505-753-8662.
