Hypocrisy of those on the political right perplexes me

-

I AM increasingly perplexed by the hypocrisy of the political right in this country and am truly amazed they cannot see it themselves. For instance:

■ They oppose abortion, yet endorse capital punishment — the death penalty— and cuts to Planned Parenthood;

■ They shout “America First,” yet load their shopping carts full of items made overseas because they are cheaper, which means they can buy more, more often;

■ They are against any immigration, yet want their grocery stores chock-full of low-priced produce and meat made possible by mostly immigrant labor;

■ They want to do away with the ACA, Obamacare, because it takes away their freedom to choose health care, yet they don’t want a woman to choose what is best for her own physical and mental health;

■ They decry socialism, yet are firmly against any changes to Social Security or Medicare, two of the largest socialist programs in this country;

■ They profess a deep belief in Christianity, yet most do not live by its teachings;

■ They want their freedoms, yet support an authoritarian president who is doing more to take away their rights and freedoms than preserve them;

■ They care only for themselves, and not for the collective United States of America.

I won’t mention the environmental degradation that is happening globally because they only see job opportunities from 19th and 20th century industries, not what the future promises and demands we do as a global community. Their bubble can’t expand that far and they won’t tolerate listening to different opinions as they won’t change channels.

In this November’s elections, we need to look forward and make choices that are best for our neighbors, this country and the coming generations.
