SF ANIMAL SHELTER & HUMANE SOCIETY

As the COVID-19 crisis continues, staying at home as much as possible seems to be the safest option. Why not bring home a new pet companion to keep you company? Meet Diggie Smalls, he is just over a year old, weighs about 11 pounds and is a mix with definitely Chihuahua and perhaps something else. Diggie Smalls is super sweet, polite with humans and dogs alike, and is just waiting for the right family to come along and adopt him. He loves to go on walks and is currently housed with another dog. If you would like to meet Diggie Smalls, please make an appointment for a meet and greet.

This weeks fabulous feline is Vito. He is a 5-year-old kitty who came into the shelter from a partnering shelter within New Mexico. He took a bit of time to gain some confidence, but is now ready to find a home to settle down in. Vito loves some affection and play time followed by a nice nap in the sunshine through the window. Contact the adoptions team to schedule an appointment with this handsome guy.

These and other animals are available for adoption from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter at 100 Caja del Rio Road. The shelter’s adoption hours during the pandemic are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. daily and are by appointment only. To enquire about any of these pets and others for adoption, call the shelter at 983-4309 to schedule an appointment. View available animals and updated COVID-19 shelter policies at SFHumaneSociety.org. You can also follow the shelter on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

One positive side of the stay-athome order is that more people are adopting or fostering pets. But with training facilities closed, how do you get your pup the training it might need? For more information about online puppy classes, visit bit.ly/ sfastraining.

ESPAÑOLA HUMANE

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month and Pitbull Awareness Month, and Española Humane is also participating in the Adopt a Foster Dog Campaign. This week’s featured dog, Daisy, fits all three criteria! Darlin’ Daisy is deaf — she can’t hear a thing — but, somehow, that just makes her more open to the world and all it has to offer. Her foster family reports that this 3-yearold, 56-pound ray of sunshine loves all people of all sizes. Best of all, she loves other dogs! She has the cutest speckly-spotted ears you ever did see, and this super social, active gal is ready for furever home. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. She has been dewormed and has tested negative for heartworm. Apply to adopt Daisy on the shelter’s website!

Of course, you just might want a cuddly cat in your life. Meet Meow Meow. He is one heck of a handsome kitty! This 6-month-old tuxedo boy would love to spend autumn days chasing a catnip toy, or curled up in a window nook to watch the leaves fall, or engaged in a philosophical meow chat while you sip a piñon coffee. Look into his golden apple eyes and you’ll know he’s the one. This fellow is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, and ready to be your new purrfect best friend!

Although the shelter is closed to the public, it is offering adoptions by appointment. Fill out an application online or call 505-753-8662 and our staff will contact you to schedule an appointment. To see more adoptable pets, log on to www. espanolahumane.org or www. petango.com.
